‘The X Factor (US)’ included a stellar performance by Rock & Roll legend Lenny Kravitz last evening but there was another icon who appeared on the talent show stage. Glowing in white, Mary J. Blige delivered a rendition of ‘Need Someone’ from her ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1)’ album.
Blige debuted the song on ‘Later…with Jools Holland’ with an emotional performance last month. Watch her ‘X Factor (US)’ showing below:
That definitely wasn’t Blige best vocal performance or song choice. In fact, she sounded unusually boring compared to her other passionate showings. Perhaps Blige was simply tired from her intense promotional campaign but it was unfortunate that such a major television appearance was where she happened to stumble.
Stumble how? She didn’t flub lyrics or trip and fall onstage…you may not be impressed with her vocal, but that’s the funny thing about music…like all other art forms, it is subjective.
I haven’t been impressed with Mariah’s vocal performance live since 1995. Her last impressive studio vocal was in 2005.
It wasnt that bad! Just a tad boring but the vocals were still good!
Im not a mariah fan (Xtina all the way) but why does everyone always bring up Mariah when Trent doesn’t say something about their favorite artist? Anyways, this and Living Proof I just dont like. Why did she perform this..
Ok im lost stumble ? where. and from the moment i heard this song on the album. the stage set up was perfect! for such and acoustic song there’s no need for extras, gimmicks and what not i think it was a good performance

By stumble, I’m sure he means in the choice of song. Mary is known for more livelier performances, even when she does a ballad. I hope this isn’t a sign that she is abandoning promoting this album because it is indeed a good one however, with all the ballands she’s been singing lately to promote the album, you’d think there were no fast or mid tempo songs on it. Mary does seem a bit bored with a pinch of I don’t feel like being here. I guess it happens.
stumble was a poor choice of words, the song doesn’t call for a “livelier” performance, its an acoustic performance(one we dont normally see from mary) and she delivered. This was her chance to show she is more than a hip hop singer and that she is a vocalist.
i agree on bringing up mariah considering the post after post we get from trent about how great she is despite her lack of a good LIVE vocal in ages, yet he is overly critical of others.
Mary didn’t “stumble” on anything. A performance without a pulse is more like it. Mary lulled me to sleep with that song.
The song is just boring. But there really isn’t anything on the album that she CAN perform that would get the crowd amped.
Her timing was off a bit on the first chorus. Her vocal wasn’t up to her usual standard. Need Someone is my favorite song off My Life 2 but it didn’t hit me in the way that it usually does. There was no passion in this performance. But all in all, I think that this song should be a single because it appeals to a range of people.
I think people bring the Jenny Craig’s spokesperson name because they wish that he would display that same objectivity in his criticisms when it comes to his favorite artist live performances and most recent chart performances …
I agree with Tahj M., thats why I prefer Necole over any other blog out there. You will never know who her “fave” is or she “stans” for. Because she presents unbaised facts and let the readers form their OWN opinions. Lets see when Mariah “stumbles” if that will be the title of his blog.
I support Lava, however, if it aint about Mariah, Trent ALWAYS through shade somewhere in the article.
