Rihanna has landed a stunning 11 #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 throughout her career but few of them have held the top slot for more than 3 weeks. However, thanks to the continuous gains in airplay of her latest hit, ‘We Found Love’, the colourful vixen has finally matched the success of her longest-running #1 single, ‘Umbrella’, which held the peak position on the chart for 7 weeks in 2007.
‘We Found Love’ has clocked a 7th week at the summit of the Hot 100 with over 146 million audience impressions and 149K downloads sold. The tune has earned Rihanna her longest stay at the #1 slot on the lineup as a lead act and equalled the residency of ‘Umbrella’.
Meanwhile, the clever cost-cutting antics of Katy Perry’s have helped her latest single, ‘The One That Got Away’, to vault into the top 5 of the Hot 100. Thanks to a 69 cents iTunes price tag, the song quickly sugred to 117K downloads – up 24% from last week – and landed at #4 on the chart.
Perry has become the 3rd artist in history to land 6 top 5 tracks on the Hot 100 from a single album, following George Michael and Janet Jackson, who accomplished the same feat with their ‘Faith’ and ‘Rhythm Nation 1814′ albums, respectively.
Conversely, Jackson remains the only act to achieve 7 top 5 entries on the Hot 100 from a single LP. Her ‘Rhythm Nation 1814′ spawned 7 top 5 songs, of which 4 climbed to #1.
Finally, on the Billboard 200, Adele’s ’21′ has topped the 5-million sales mark. The record, which was ranked as the top album of 2011, sold an additional 187K copies this week – it gained 30% from last week – an extended its lead as the year’s top-seller.

that katy perry song has no reason to be in the top 10. none whatsoever
They need to put a ban on the price of buying single. anything below 99 cents should not be counted
So Katy’s label reduced the price of her single so that she’d hit the charts and get in the history books. It seems like now everyone is doing everything that they can in order to say that they accomplished something. Whatever happened to the days that people strive to just make good music and the accolades/ record breaking was just supplementary to the love of and ability to make music.
But anyways, congrats to Adele! 5 million!
@DOMOdotSCORE , you said exactly what i was trying to say. thanks for that.
So u mean to ttell me people wont buy a single for 99¢ but will for 69¢???????!!!!!! SmH and the label manipulating sales to make histort is disrespectful to those who made history without any tricks. Smfh
@Domodotscore

I swear I love me some shade-less writing from Trent. That was a very well written post…. Hoping for many many more
Umbrella was a great song… cannot say the same thing for WFL.
I agree with all of you, so tired of these gimmicks by the record companies. 69 cents for a song? Really? I guess that’s Katy Perry’s “price tag”, right Jessie J? Lame.
