The UK music market is notorious for classing Pop singers as “Urban” solely because of the colour of their skin. However, Emelie Sande is one of the few acts that have emerged in that territory during the last few years who has shown an apt understanding of R&B music as demonstrated by her appearance on RWD TV.
Singing ‘Where I Sleep’ from her upcoming ‘Our Version of Events’ album, Sande showcased her subtle R&B and Reggae influences during her performance. Her ‘Our Version of Events’ debut LP will be available on February 13th in the UK.
Watch Sande in action below:
Sande is one of the few R&B crossover acts in the UK. It is quite baffling that people have readily accepted the ignorant notions that Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke – blatant Pop singers – are R&B. Really, if you’re black in the UK then expect to be unfairly classed as “Urban” even if you sing Opera or cover Barbra Streisand songs.
Love her. Cant wait for her to come to the US
I really like her voice. Her music is lovely.
TRUE TEA TRENT omg!
It’s so annoying, everyone black is R&B!! So ridiculous!
Thanks for giving Emeli valuable blog time. Talent and music like hers deserves all the attention it can get!
