Did you know that Whitney Houston sang background vocals on the original version of Chaka Khan’s first solo hit, ‘I’m Every Woman’?
Before launching her own recording career, Houston was given the opportunity to sing background on Khan’s self-titled debut solo album, which included the song ‘I’m Every Woman’, thanks to her family connections – her mother, Cissy Houston, also sang background on the record. The song was recorded in 1978 when Houston was only 15 years old.
Of course, Houston later released her own rendition of ‘I’m Every Woman’ on ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack and it outranked the #21 peak of its predecessor when it ascended to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Houston could be heard chanting Khan’s name at the end of the song and the latter even appeared in its accompanying video.

DID CHAKA NOT KNOW HER VERSE? ….
ha, she sure did mumble her parts then just let out a yell
whitney is musical royalty!
Whitney got time in the game. She sang backup for lou rawls too! connections got her the job but her talent had to be on point to keep it, point is she could sang and that’s why she was allowed to do background on that song
Hallelujah!!! My Lord…. Whitney & Chaka can SANG!!!. I miss, miss, miss, miss, miss performances like this. When the chemistry is explosive and raw. If you compare this to last year diva performance with Mary J. blige you can tell the differences. The are no true musical diva for this generation who can command a stage. If you look at each of the videos from Way back Wednesday with Mariah, Patti, Chaka and Whitney you can tell the difference in regards to performances; how a true diva works the stage and the audiences.
Damn! Whitney! she tore that stage up and still give chaka her props! whitney is a queen so humble. Chaka sounded like a dying cat back them but her vocals have gotten better now, give me hope for whitney now
