Did you know that feuding rappers Lil Kim and Foxy Brown’s debut albums were released exactly one week apart?
Kim’s ‘Hard Core’ LP debuted in the US on November 12th 1996 whereas Brown’s ‘Ill Na Na’ was issued just seven days later on November 19th. Interestingly, both records included verses by Jay-Z, who was featured on Kim’s ‘Big Momma Thang’ and Brown’s ‘I’ll Be’.
Of course, Kim’s ‘Hard Core’ was more successful than its counterpart and was certified double platinum after generating 3 top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, two of which peaked within the top 10 – ‘Crush on You (Ft. Lil Cease & The Notorious B.I.G.)’ and ‘Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix) (Ft. Da Brat, Angie Martinez, Missy Elliott and Left Eye)’. Brown’s ‘Ill Na Na’, on the other hand, was certified platinum and ‘Ill Be’, which peaked at #7 on the Hot 100, was the album’s only top 20 hit.
