US Charts: Rihanna Scores A Double & Adele Tops Six Million

    Written by TriniTrent | Filed under Adele,Bruno Mars,Charts,David Guetta,drake,Flo Rida,Jay-Z,Kanye West,Katy Perry,LMFAO,Nicki Minaj,Rihanna,Snoop Dogg

Two major achievements were logged in the Billboard history books this week but they occurred on two completely different charts by two extremely dissimilar artists. Rihanna and Adele have both made history in their individual ways on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, respectively.

Firstly, Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ has scored its 10th week at the pole position of the Hot 100 and became only the 11th single by a solo female artist to hold the top spot for as many frames. In fact, ‘We Found Love’ has become the first song by a solo female act to remain at #1 for 10 weeks since Beyonce’s ‘Irreplaceable’ in 2007.

Which song by a solo female artist has held the top spot for the longest period of time? That was Mariah Carey’s ‘One Sweet Day (with Boyz II Men)’, which dominated the Hot 100 for 16 weeks as the longest-running #1 song in this history of the chart. Additionally, after ‘We Belong Together’ ruled the listing for 14 weeks in 2005, Carey became the only solo artist to have 2 songs spend at least 10 weeks at the summit of the lineup.

Secondly, Adele continued her reign on the Billboard 200 this week as ’21′ clocked an incredible 16th frame at #1. The album has become the first album to remain at the top of the chart for as many weeks since the ‘Titanic’ soundtrack in 1998 and is second to Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack as the longest-running #1 LP by a female artist in US history.

To date, ’21′ has sold over 6.05 million copies in the US. The third official single from the album, ‘Set Fire to the Rain’, has leaped from #4 to #2 on the Hot 100.

See the leading releases in the top 10 of both Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 below:

Must it always be about Mariah, y’all are just as disgusing as TGJ. Nobody is denying MC’s succeess but u must not bring it up everytime you breathe. Hypocrite like yourself, always acting as if you are a legit journalist. Kmt

    • Ugh

Adele’s album is good but who in the hell is still buying it.

We Found Love is repetitive. Isn’t anyone releasing singles these days? It’s about time it fell down the charts.

    • gdboyratedloud

aDELE is a beast n like ugh said wtf still buying 21????

    • kingboy

      TheMariahLizard.com LMAO!!

    • mEME

I think its good that Mariah is brought up. People (The Monsters and the fckn BeeHives) seem to forget what this woman has achieved!

    • carol

is we found love still number one becuase of its airplay

    • Rihbaby

@Meme everyone knows what MC has acheived, you think people are really ignorant of what other stars have accomplished? They just act like that for the sake of stanning.
This site needs to act professional, its okay to reference MC’s accomplishment every now and then but dont dwell on it, like your life depends on it. Its irritating to come on this blog sometimes, MC on every post. #irritatingasfuck

    • MISHKA

Good for Rihanna even though I don’t understand why the song is still up there.
Katy Perry has like 0 chance to go #1. Adele might be next and even if she fails, FloRida”Gotta feeling” is the f_cking tune !!!
Tyga got a Top10 hit. Well, YMCMB is on a roll!
The Throne should go #1 too but it seems that Jay & Ye don’t even care anymore.

    • DRB

Um WBT should’ve had 15 weeks. Damn Carrie Underwood debut.

    • Girrrl

I’m just glad that discount-15-versions-of-one-song Perry is not number 1 even though I suspect she’ll be releasing another version of that crappy song.

    • Naudisweet(Xtina Stan)

I love Mariah too, but I gotta agree, please gives us a break sometimes. Just let the post be about Adele and Rih.
