Jennifer Hudson honored Whitney Houston at the 2012 Grammy Awards and Destra Garcia delivered a similar tribute in Antigua but this morning it was Ashanti’s turn to celebrate the life of the fallen icon. Following her performance of her new single, ‘The Woman You Love’, on ‘Good Morning America’, the songstress sang a rendition of ‘I Have Nothing’ in memory of one of her idols.
This wasn’t the first occasion where Ashanti covered Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’. She also belted the tune alongside its composer, David Foster, during the ‘David Foster & Friends Asian Tour’ in October last year.
Watch Ashanti’s ‘GMA’ showings below:
‘The Woman You Love’
‘I Have Nothing’
Obviously, Ashanti was feeling the pressure to impress with this performance so that may have negatively affected her vocals. Regardless, she handled herself well given the circumstances and sounded far better than Keri Hilson.
You don’t remember Hilson’s performance of ‘I Have Nothing’? If that’s the case then watch it below:
The fact that these bitches even attempted to sing Whitney’s songs is baffling to me … I mean c’mon , what’s next ? Ciara & Cassie singing Run To You and Saving All My Love For You ?
Ashanti’s vocals have improved tremendously. She did a decent job.
Ashanti did good!!
Wow!! I’m very impressed by Ashanti. She would probably be able to hit the notes better if it wasn’t so early in the morning. Well done
Ashanti vocal is not strong enough to sing this song.
Jennifer Huston is the only who did this song justice.
Monica did an O.K. on this song.
