Christina Aguilera & ‘The Voice’ Coaches Ruin Prince Tribute

Now that ‘The Voice’ has returned to NBC, we have to endure a mix of wailing and bombastic high notes from performers who are erger to impress the viewers. However, last evening the barrage of misplaced notes didn’t come from the contestants; the noise came from the coaches during an awkward tribute to Prince.

Belting tunes such as ’1999′, ‘Little Red Corvette’, ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’ and ‘Kiss’, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green proved that none of them know how to sing. Don’t believe me? Watch the madness unfold below:

That tribute was horrible! Shelton sounded completely lost – he obviously can’t sing anything except Country music – Green kept mumbling and Levine’s then falsetto was underwhelming, although he did do a phenomenal job on the guitar. Of course, Aguilera was the worst.

Aguilera slurred her verses – did she forget the words again? – and had absolutely no sense of the music. Furthermore, she used the exact same vocal runs that she performs in every song. Really, why does she end every performance with that “yeah yeah yeaaaahhhh oooooooh” run?

Dear Christina Aguilera, I am sending you the following plea in bold, italics, underlined, capital letters and in a special colour just for you: STOP IT!

  Trent been going in on Xtina hard lately, and she barely sang anything but back-up in the whole medley. Just hope you can take it back from the Xtina, Rihanna, Bey fans when Mariah come out. Just saying…..

  Clearly, all 4 of them do not know how to sing with other people. Out of everyone, Adam did the best but still not his best. Cee Lo was being Cee Lo. I cannot deal with Blake turning Kiss into a country song just so he could sing it. Christina needs to be taught how to be a background singer; she was trying to outdo everyone during their turn. All of them need to go stand in a corner for this “tribute”.

  Once again I agree with @DOMOdotScore its call harmonizing. I don’t understand. Sometimes it best not to touch certain artist songs such as Prince and Michael Jackson prime example that Glee’s tribute. Adam did well with I wanna be your lover but to me it appears rush or last minute as if the did not practice together.

  @Joss and at least Christina doesn’t make the audience sing all the good parts of her songs just coz she can’t like Mariah does.
  I’ve been disappointed by Mariah doing that SO many times or her fave “and you and you and you and you and you” in place of the big belt.

  First of all, I thought the tribute to Prince was amazing. They all sounded the way I expected them to sound. I definately did not expect them to sound like Prince. You definitely went in on Christina and she barely sung. Plus why are you all showing Prince reaction to a tribute Trey Songz did for him on B.E.T. Awards show. Trent you definitely don’t know talent because you went in real hard in this article, they did not sound the best but they were great. I enjoyed it.

  Did this blogger really watched the video? Christina did a pretty nice job.. she stand out even she was just doing back up. Adam was so great.. arrangement of Cee Lo and Blake was great.. although blake on his first 2 line wasn’t able to channel the momentum that Xtina built at the start of the song.. but still he sounded well. Your Idol Mariah is the ugliest singer in the world. In case you don’t know.

  Xtina did a great job! Trent is just bitter, he should have stayed in Trinidad and been shot for that matter. Xtina is more versatile than Mariah, also Mariah is old and doesn’t have that voice like she used to.

  I think all of them did excellent. Christina cant really help going over board, it is hard for her to shrink her voice and btw her voice is amazing, she is one of the best female singers of all time. Adam did wonderful as always Blake is a country singer and has a country accent and he didnt change the song to make it country, Cee- Lo has his roughness sound which sounds good on those songs. So can everyone just stop making such a big deal? And person who even made this article, was it really worth your time?
