Right on the heels of the release of her new single, ‘Starships’, Nicki Minaj’s cover of the February/March edition of VIBE magazine has also been issued. The animated star spoke about an array of topics in the magazine, such as what separates her from other female rappers – she doesn’t always talk about “p*ssy.”

You’ve said before that you didn’t really have fun recording Pink Friday.
I felt like I had something to prove to everyone who said a female rapper could not make an album unless she was talking about her pussy. And so I went above and beyond to prove that I could not talk about sex and not talk about my genitalia and still have a successful album. And I proved that. And now my time for proving things to my critics is over. I don’t really need to prove anything to anyone else anymore.
Is it still hard to get your way as a woman in this industry?
It’s not hard to get your way when it’s your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they’re not around. I don’t really like the sound of that, ‘cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I’m just very black and white when it comes to my business. There’s really no gray area. I really don’t have a lot of small talk with people I work with. It’s pretty much let’s get the job done. In the beginning, if people didn’t know me they’d probably assume I wasn’t smart or wasn’t business savvy. But once you sit and talk to me, it’s a different story.

Iam a fan of Nicki, but this album is gonna flop. HARD.
None of the songs she has released have impressed anyone. She doesnt have people around her to tell her no. Just yes men. Thats why the quality of music this era is really poor.

Boy #SIT. Just because she says she doesn’t need to talk about her pussy that automatically means she’s taking shots at Kim? NO, I see why some Kim fans are bitter it’s really getting old. Instead of worrying about your fav and everytime Nicki does an interview, y’all go up and arms over shit that really is childish. Nicki ain’t bothered by Kim or worrying about Kim. She is speaking in general from her point of perspective. Ppl nowdays don’t want to hear about sex or “fuck me this” all the time. It’s called being diverse and having that balance. The problem with Nicki’s critics is that they don’t want her to be herself and expand her brand. She’s still hip-hop and pop. She can do BOTH and she will continue to succeed. If she would have put out a straight up rap album. Would ppl have interest? Maybe but she wouldn’t have been able to have the catapulate success like she has now. She’s building and experimenting her brand. Music/movies/t.v./ you name it. And you going to bring up Kim just to justify your bitterness towards Nicki. I’ve never been a Kim fan, but Kim could have focused on her brand if she wouldn’t so called trying to live the hollywood “white” life and chasing after hoodlums that so called had loyalty. Kim could have branded her craft and expanded her “empire” if she had one. Nicki is smart and she’s playing it her OWN way not the other way around.

Let’s not think negative here because I doubt she will flop this era. Everything seems to be going perfectly as far I’m concerned. “Stupid Hoe” didn’t make the cut for for me. “Starship” and the other hand got me it’s #1 written all over. Don’t be too gulliable with negativity, because I’m sure the rest of the album is hard as rocks. Just because a few singles were a dissapointment doesn’t mean the album will be. She’s still going to have that hardcore rap Nicki we love too. Oh and the cover looks FIERCE.
@CiYonce, It’s not JUST that she’s throwing that “i don’t need to talk about pussy” shit (which was SO directed at Kim… ” there’s also the “Notorious K.I.N.G” obviously a Kim reference and the fact that evertime Nicki has a single she ALWAYS brings all this tired beef back to the forefront SMH
Get a grip, I don’t care if Kim is ever big again she’s earned her place and has achieved more than Nicki ever will without even jacking anyone or selling out so…
