    The late Whitney Houston.

Did you know that Whitney Houston only co-wrote 2 of her Billboard Hot 100 hit singles?

Houston notched 39 entries on the Hot 100 but she only helped to write 2 of those songs – ‘Count on Me (Ft. CeCe Winans)’ and ‘Whatchulookinat’. The former tune peaked at #8 on the chart in 1996 whereas ‘Whatchulookinat’ only climbed to #96 on the lineup in 2002.

Interestingly, several of Houston’s most successful songs on the Hot 100 were covers of other performers’ records.  Among those tunes were ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘Greatest Love of All’, ‘All the Man That I Need’ and ‘Saving All My Love for You’.

Watch the video for Houston’s ’Whatchulookinat’ below:

    Now you know!

It seems like most of your posts about Whitney focus on what she couldn’t or didn’t do as opposed to all that she accomplished. Yes, they’re all true facts, but you seem to slant them in a negative way.

I knew this one (I’m a HUGE Whitney stan lol). I wish they released Like I Never Left. That would have been a hit for sure!

@Umm girl, sit down. You see what you want to see.

So what if she only co-wrote 2 songs?! Not all singers can also write songs and at least she didn’t claim to co-write songs like many artists today to just because they add 2 words to a song like a certain Ms Knowles.

    4. Theman4u says:

@Umm excellent point and believe me it’s done intentionally

She co-wrote a total of 5 songs. The question is how many did she write that never got released or recorded.

ooohhh wow really! just shows her voice was amazing coz youd think she wrote all the way she sang!

yep i know and it is really sad for an artist like whitney. btn celine dion, mariah carey and whitney houston, i think only mariah actually wrote some or most of her songs.

Atleast she sang them like she wrote the, whereas a certain other “diva” writers her songs but cannot perform them live because she lip synches

What was the purpose of this post? What was the intention? I don’t understand. Isn’t “Music Minute” meant to be interesting as well as truthful?

Some people sing. Some people write. Some people do both. The truth is, most people don’t actually care. Whitney was never renowned for her song-writing abilities but more for her ability to use her magnificent voice to interpret lyrics/songs with great passion and captivate an audience.

There are plenty of artists who have contributed majorly to soul music yet never wrote their own songs. Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Chaka Khan (just to name a few) are considered some of the most influential singers of all time yet never wrote their classic hits. So no, it is not “interesting” that Whitney’s most successful hits were not written by herself.

So Trent, if you want to talk about “truth hurts”…

Well, the truth is, this post was redundant.

@TMMI what the FUCK are you talking about? “Isn’t “Music Minute” meant to be interesting as well as truthful?” THIS IS TRUTHFUL. Did Trent lie? NO.

Another good MM! I didn’t know this one. Count on Me is MY JAM!!!

    12. TIMMI says:
      April 7, 2012 at 7:31 pm

      @Ms. Boss

You stupid person. I acknowledged that the post is truthful. That’s why I said “***AS WELL AS***” truthful. Meaning it should be interesting ***AS WELL***, not just truthful.

I mean really, if I was saying that Trent was lying, would I have bothered typing the rest of my comment?

Refrain from responding to my posts again until you learn to read. Stupid, stupid person.

I don’t understand why people are getting so worked up over this. Whitney never claimed to be a writer like Beyonce. She was a vocalist…one of the best ever. Artists have different strengths.

      April 8, 2012 at 12:26 am

I must ask what is your point in this post?! As others have said, so what! If you choose to post negative things about Whitney Houston – whether they be fact or not, be prepared for her fans to defend her. Whitney Houston will always be known as “The Greatest Voice Of All”. I had the pleasure of seeing her 5 times in concert. Don’t you think that it’s bad enough that the media has focused on the demons that she sufferred with as do many versus all the good she did do. Why not let Whitney RIP. Also, allow those who loved her and appreciated her talent to share their stories with out all the negativity that has no point if you are a Whitney fan.

    15. Tiddie says:
      April 8, 2012 at 7:09 am

it doesn’t really matter if Whitney Houston wrote all her songs or not the most important thing is,is that she still gets royalties for all of them even artist who write their own songs don’t get that because they don’t use their brain and so they make shady deals with their record labels and I can name several artist including your favorites that have made those deals .Whitney Houston was a smart buisness woman she didn’t have to write her own music she had others help or write her songs but she got the money for it smart woman remember she was the highest paid singer ever.Whitney Houston was so damn smart with her music and money that’s why some people can’t stand her.

    17. Tiddie says:
      April 8, 2012 at 12:21 pm

BeyBoy: because it has no meaning what is trent’s point why bring up Whitney Houston when there are so many artist out there who don’t write their own music.trent choosing Whitney Houston out of all the rest makes it seem personal like he is trying to down play her talent.why didn’t trent just say there’s a lot of artist who haven’t written all their song’s instead of just mentioning Whitney Houston does that make any since to you, again it sounds personal and stupid on trent’s part.

    18. Sharon says:
      April 8, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Tiddie, well said in your post at 7:09 AM. Thank you!!! Also, your other post, good for you!!! He has singled out Whitney Houston and it is pointless!!! Whitney Houston for me will always be “The Greatest Voice Of All”.

    19. BeyBoy says:
      April 8, 2012 at 2:37 pm

@Tiddie “sounds personal and stupid on Trent’s part” from that it sounds like you have a personal problem with Trent. I’ve seen Trent do similar posts about other artists but you didn’t complain. See like you have a personal investment in Whitney. Just a pleasant observation.

    20. TIMMI says:
      April 8, 2012 at 3:29 pm

      @BeyBoy

I’m trying to figure out where you got the idea “people are mad at Trent for telling the truth.”

None of the posts suggest that anyone is “mad” at Trent. From what I see, everyone appears to just have the “so what” attitude at the post. Nobody has an issue with what the truth is. But the fact still remains that this post was irrelevant. Like I stated, plenty (if not, the majority) of artists have achieved chart success with songs which were not written by themselves.

That makes this post irrelevant. If me stating so makes me “mad at Trent” then whatever– I could care less.

    21. TIMMI says:
      April 8, 2012 at 3:37 pm

And don’t attempt to make this about Trent. He is only relevant here because he wrote the post. If somebody else wrote this post I’m sure people would be here making the same comments. This post was whack; nothing more, nothing less.

    22. Tiddie says:

Regarding the royalties comments, not really. Dolly Partner made more off that one song than Whitney ever did. She may have gotten a large advance but we don’t know what she got per album/song/airplay, etc

    27. Tiddie says:
      April 8, 2012 at 11:04 pm

DRB@Dolly Parton only owns the musical composition Whitney Houston owns the sound recording of I will always love you meaning Whitney has full control of her version of the song not Dolly. Dolly Parton only gets 3or4 cents of what ever the album or single makes because she wrote it and owns the publishing rights but that’s all. Whitney Houston gets the rest of what ever the album or single sells now who is making the real money just because someone writes the songs doesn’t mean their getting as much as you may think.like I said before Whitney Houston was a smart business woman she knew what she was doing when she decided to record i will always love you and all the rest of her songs.

    28. justdankin says:
      April 9, 2012 at 11:04 am

@Tiddie you are talking a load of shit. Whitney does not own the “sound recording” of IWALY. The publishing rights of the song (and all covers) are owned by Dolly; a fact made very clear by Billboard following Whitney’s death. Also, all royalties generated by the song go to Dolly’s publishing company and RCA Records (it absorbed Jive last year).

I am a big Whitney fan and it really bothers me to see people spreading lies about her, even if they are defending her. This Music Minute presented facts about Nip. She never claimed to be a writer so why is this information bothering people? Calm down.

    29. Salem says:
      April 9, 2012 at 11:24 am

What I do know is that Whitney had made a lucrative deal with her songs that she receives a deal of a portion of the monies from what the songs make/sales. You would be stupid to think she only gets royalties from IWALY

    30. Tiddie says:
      April 9, 2012 at 11:54 am

justdankin@first off your not a Whitney Houston fan if you believe that nonsense. And yes Whitney does own the sound recording to IWALY Doll Parton only owns the musical composition and her version of the song only.Let me teach you somethings, this is how the music business runs the singer can always get royalties for their music even if they don’t write it or own the publishing rights to the song it all depends on the contract the artist makes with their record label and Whitney made sure she got all royalties for her music her record label have said that.As for the writers and publishers of songs of course they get royalties as well but only 3or4 cents of what the song sells the only time they can get more is if the writer makes a different deal with singer or record label. At the end of the day 3or4 cents will add up to a lot of money for the writer just not as much as what the singer would be getting now that is the law believe it or not.and all of the billboard, rca records, publishing rights stuff you just said makes no since at all anybody who said that don’t know what their talking about.like I said before singers always get royalty rights to their songs unless they make another kind of deal which I call a shady deal.

Beyfan, first of all whether you are a Whitney fan which obviously you are not. It is very clear that you do like Beyonce. I must say that should the tables have been turned and Beyonce was faced with the demon’s that Whitney had – I must ask would you appreciate someone calling her a crack ho and make reference to this dead ho. If I were others, I would not even entertain your non sense. This is someone’s daughter, mother, sister and friend & her loyal fan’s that you are insulting. It appears to me that you have issues and using Whitney as your whipping post is UNAPPROPRIATE. I can only hope & pray that others will quit reading your garbage talk and move on. You need not respond, but reflect on what you are saying as it is wrong to speak of anyone in such a way.

      Beyfan,

As far as my being angry with you: NO! I simply try and comprehend how one could come to the conclusions and trash talk that you spew? I WILL NOT RESPOND PAST THIS POST REGARDLESS OF WHAT TRASH YOU DISH OUT NEXT. I FIND YOUR RESPONSE TO BE NON SENSE. As far as saying that what is being said is true, maybe in your FICTION WORLD, which I do not care to subcribe to. You are clearly on this site for only one purpose and that is to provoke others as you continue to insult Whitney. Remember, what you sew, you shall reap. Let Whitney RIP. Should you continue to slam her, you might just be putting a target on your own back as people do not take well to a wasted life such as yours and your ignorant responses that you have previously posted only show that you have no respect for woman, might that be that you are attracted to the opposite sex? See, this sounds like the non-sense that you are spewing about Whitney!!! Leave her alone, before you suffer as a result of you lack of better judgement. Remember, one day we all will stand before God, and he hears and sees all things. As I stated before Whitney will always be known as “The Greatest Voice Of All”. I think that is what really bothers you. You do not see others attacking Beyonce and her talent, so why must you continue to rag on someone who gave it her all. May Whitney RIP and her family be shielded by the ignorance of the media & non-sense such as your opinion and lack of total respect.
