Did you know that Lil Kim has yet to score a #1 album on the Billboard 200?
None of Kim’s albums have topped the Billboard 200 and her highest-charting released in the US, ‘The Notorious K.I.M.’, peaked at #4 on the lineup. Even her top-selling LP, ‘Hard Core’, was unable to climb pass its #11 plateau.
‘Hard Core’ has thus far been certified 2x platinum by the RIAA. Meanwhile, ‘The Notorious K.I.M.’ and ‘La Bella Mafia’ have both reach platinum status. However, her most recent release, 2005′s ‘The Naked Truth’, has not even been certified gold in the US.
Watch the video for one of Kim’s most popular songs, ‘The Jump Off (Ft. Mr. Cheeks)’, below:
Her last album wasn’t certified Gold because she left her label shortly after its release. So Atlantic had no reason to spend the money to have the album certified by the RIAA
*waits for nicki stans to come and use this to justify why she is better than kim*
but the music was daaaamn good tho… who care she didn’t make the billboard top. Lord knows the most popular choices aren’t always the most quality ones.
who cares lil will always be better than these new so call rappers cough cough nikki wats her name
@shaytan
True, I hate how her last album has surpassed the sales of a Gold plaque but they won’t certify it. Kim’s label should request a financial report for the current sales and a certification by the RIAA.
Nicki slays Kim’s life over and over again, 7 songs on Billboard, #1 album in 4 countries, more # hits than Kim could ever dream of, her own Barbie, Pepsi commercial, her own Adidas, Superbowl. I could go on but I dont wanna hurt the Lil Krimlins.
lmfao she said krimlins i can’t breathe
A useless fact, she still had hits. Does it matter she never hit #1.
Notorious Kim stayed on Billboard for 74 weeks
And? So what? Just because their album doesn’t reach a 1# spot on the charts doesn’t make the artist credibile? Please. You forgot to mention that Lil’ Kim was the FIRST female rapper to have her name in a 1# HOT 200 Billboard position.
Her album, Hardcore, done a fantastic job as a debut album, especially since it was exploring themes of sexual liberation for women- one of the first female rappers to do so.
Plus, her duet with 50 Cent, Magic Stick, peaked at #2 on the HOT 200, and the fact she’s had 7 1# songs, both solo and featured, on the Rap Charts is a huge achievement.
I hate when people, or blogs, chose to broadcast people’s failures, yet whisper their successes.
Long live the Queen!
LOL at the Nicki stans… yeah she has two No1 albums but does she have a 2x platinum album and annother two platinum albums??? nope…
This always makes me lol when people call Rihanna a flop because she hasn’t got a No1 album in the US but her albums keep going Platinum…
And? What is this article trying to prove? It reeks of ‘one-upmanship’ on Lil’ Kim and why are people researching into Kimberley Jones discography trying to find evidence to diss her? …..Making out that trophies and awards mean ‘something’.
Platinum or not Lil’ Kim is Legendary and no-one will ever compare to such an icon of rap. She will continue being the Queen and female Icon of Rap and Billboard or any other ‘chart’ certification will not prove otherwise.
Popular ‘recent’ female rappers nowadays have ‘throwaway’ repetitive, undeveloped music. If you research female rap ever since the 70′s you’ll see how the ‘talent’ has remained at Lil’ Kims witty lyricism.
Google ‘Queen Bee 101′ and realise a degree was based upon Lil’ Kims verses and how she references art, lifestyle and fashion within her songs. Other females have since copied her but they come off as being a pale comparison.
