It’s official: Usher has returned to the Dance/Pop music movement. The singer, who was lauded for reviving the R&B movement with ‘Climax’, has released a new single, ‘Scream’, which is laced with auto-tune, synths and a catchy club-ready hook.
Usher’s new album, ‘Looking for Myself’, will hit stores on June 12th. The record will also entail his next Urban radio single, ‘Let Me See (Ft. Rick Ross)’, which will impact radio during the coming days.
Listen to Usher’s ‘Scream’ below:
Usher really disappointed many of his R&B fans with ‘Scream’. Although it is a solid Dance/Pop record, it definitely dose not showcase the Revolutionary Pop sound that he promised and it ruined the momentum for an R&B revival sparked by ‘Climax’.
Perhaps Usher is attempting to target all markets with ‘Looking for Myself’ but these various sounds might confuse his audience. Also, after crafting the foundation of what could have be a new subgenre alongside Diplo with ‘Climax’, the trendy ‘Scream’ is a major disappointment.
Jason Derulo jump on the single cover? Not going to lie, kind of very disappointed in this. Just sounds so….pedestrian. It’s just safe and after ‘Climax’ just raises a big question mark
Do Usher and Pitbull have a song together? I would listen to it if they did.
this is actually smart. no doubt that ‘climax’ is one of the best R&B tracks to come out in a long time and ‘scream’ will take him to the top of the pop charts. why not conquer both if you’re versatile enough to do so.
can’t wait for this album!!
this is cool, not his best by far but he has a hit on his hands, he’ll need a remix to cement the deal tho… get them Party Anthem boys on there for the win usher!
If he wants to do pop so be it as long as he doesn’t stray away from R&B altogether. This song is disappointing because it doesn’t sound like the revolutionary pop he talked about. It sounds like every other pop song.
@ L>E>M>B yes they do n it’s call:DJ Got Us Fallin In Love
he just wants a pop hit. *kanye shrug*
1st single = quality is priority, 2nd = chart success is priority.
I just hope there are no more then 2-3 dance tracks!
I’ve always liked Usher and his music..but I’m sorry this song is not it…I loved “Climax” and will continue to listen to that song, but “Scream”…No…Climax was different than anything that’s currently on the radio. To me it had substance in relation to being in a unhappy relationship,it display Usher vocals and emotions along with great melodies etc….. Scream which in my opinion has redundant lyrics…it just feels like it was thrown together just to satisfy the Mainsteam Pop crowd. I grew up with House/Techno music in 80s and 90s more underground…Some had an alternative, urban and dubstep feel. Go to You Tube and check it out
…Usher’s Scream to me it’s like DJGUFIL with cheesy, repetive lyrics…it’s just unfortunate that a talented Artist like Usher reduced himself to a watered down dance song..with then same overtly sexual toned lyrics….Scream should of been about a internal feeling of an external mechanism that causes one to “Scream” something more personal like..what makes you scream?…That’s why I loved Adele’s music she went against the grain. Besides maybe “Climax” would went #1 on Hot 100 if all mainstream radio stations played the song…where I live only the R&B stations played “Climax”….However, I did like Without U and More….sorry for the rambling lol….I if Scream had more meaningful lyrics…and the production was different..meaning a little more of a mixture of Techno and Urban, not just Urban but Alternative..I think most fans would of liked it….
I will buy the album for sure. I loved climax, and hopefully there wont be more than a few dance songs on the album. Can’t help but feel disappointed with his current dance music direction though.
cant blame him though, no one is really checking for any form of rnb right now, so off to pop they are and will all go, after all thats where the moola is these days
