Rita Ora: “Jay-Z Wants To Repeat Rihanna’s Success”

Written by Trent | Filed under Jay-Z,Rihanna,Rita Ora
    Jay-Z Rita Ora TheLavaLizard

Jay-Z and Rita Ora exit Parm restaurant in SoHo.

Many people have had their fill of the comparisons between Rita Ora and Rihanna but it seems that the root of the issue stems from Roc Nation headquarters. Indeed, the former has broken her silence about the parallels and revealed Jay-Z is on a mission to make her repeat Rihanna’s success.

Ora stated in The Guardian that finding another Rihanna is unlikely but Jay-Z is focused creating a superstar of equal magnitude. In fact, Ora noted that her peer’s meteoric rise to fame from a small town is of specific interest to Jay-Z because of her similar story.

Read what Ora had to say below:

“I don’t think there will be a next Rihanna,” she says. “But I think [Jay Z] definitely sees me as someone who could be as big as Rihanna. She’s a superstar now but they first knew her as a small-island girl – and they want to repeat that success.”

    Read more on The Guardian.

Well, at least Ora is being honest. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Jay-Z striving to match the success of his star product artist but the real problem is caused when he markets Ora as a clone of an established brand that is still dominating the charts.

At this point, there is nothing else that can be said. Perhaps if Ora fails to match Rihanna’s impact then Jay-Z will allow her to be her own artist and use her amazing talent to craft her own niche. Until then, let’s just sit and watch.

    Thoughts?

I agree. People will compare the two and that will hurt Rita’s career.

The only problem that I have with Rita Ora is that her whole come up is pretty much based in Rihanna’s shadow. Say what you want about Rihanna, but the girl has had immense success since she came on the scene and has proven to people that she’s here to say…lack of talent and all. With Rita, I feel as if her image is just based on Rihanna comparisons, and that’s all it is. Take away her blonde hair and red lipstick, what else do you have? Certainly not her voice, her presence, or anything else. Not only is it not fair to her, but consumers as well who want a new sound.

JayZ is slow how can u market the same market with a star who’s very well still into there prime aka Rihanna she’s only like 24 or somthing she’s not done so why not use a different formula for the new Gurl it already knocks her out plus Rihanna fans only want Rihanna.

sorry honey bun, you may become successful but it won’t compare to Rihanna’s. The mold had been made for Rihanna only. Good luck to ya.

This girl needs to be HERSELF if she wants to make an impact. A clone of another artist will not stand the test of time. The only thing that Rita has is her vocal talent. Other then that, left over scraps from Rihanna’s songs & closet ain’t gonna make it. Noone will buy this for long. She has to set herself apart. She already dosent dance, has the Gwen Stafani look, garabage singles so far, ect..roc nation labelheads need to get it together or else..

I’m just not feeling these new girls. They all look the same & sound the same. They all are replicas of past or even present artist. I can’t stand when labels do this. Look at Alicia Keys vs Karina Pasian, Ciara vs Natasha, Justin Beiber vs Jacob Latimore/cody simpson, Beyonce vs several failed attempts at trying to make clones. Stop it. Wonder why Adele is winning.

      Rita, girlfriend…

She needs a new label and a clue. Why would she willingly allow her boss to disregard her own artistry, just to match the success of Rih? I like her but girl needs to stand up and find her identity cause if she does not, she won’t be successful. She allowing her career to end before it even begins.

This makes Jay look like he’s not confident enough in his company to brand unique individual talent

Well all record companies want multiple artists who are successful so that isn’t a surprise. Rita has a nice voice. Let’s hope she forges her own lane.

From a business standpoint this would somewhat make sense if Rihanna was fading star, but she’s not. She’s still very popular and fresh in everyone’s mind. Trying clone her will backfire badly, because everyone with a brain can see the intention behind this. It’d be one thing if she only had a couple of things in common with Rihanna and was allowed to be herself, but it’s quite another thing if she’s being groomed as Rihanna’s successor. Rih’s not from a previous generation or bordering on irrelevance, so why does Jay-Z think his plan will work? How many Rihanna wannabes do you see tearing up the charts right now? Exactly. I can understand wanting to replicate his former protege’s success, but he would have far better luck doing that with someone who’s original (or at least close to it). Not to mention that it’s actually pretty insulting to Rita to mold her in the image of another person rather than encouraging her to forge her own path.

And he’s really not helping the music scene by recycling what’s already out there instead of bringing something new to the table. I kind of hoped that as a musician himself he would realize this, but I guess he’s a businessman first and an artist second. This actually lowers my respect for him a bit.

This isn’t anything we didn’t already know, right? This is sad.. Sure Rihanna’s success should be the strive for a new artist, but pushing her as a clone is not good for anybody. SHE can’t be herself, and WE already have Rihanna WHO IS STILL HERE.

I completely agree with you. I went to the rocnation site to check her out after seeing her gotye cover and I just couldn’t continue watching her videos because every video was like watching rihanna down to the claw nails and ripped jeans. ughhh she’s a great singer they need to let her be her and she’s def not rihanna

It’ll blow over soon,it’s just jay z pressed about the rihanna and chris collabo ,which I also don’t approve of,but well I love rihanna and I guess jay is starting to realise that he DOES not have control over rihanna, remember that her contract 7 years ago was to record 6 albums, and as from 2013 it will be legally limited if it’s renewed and won’t be legally binding,so rihanna can choose to abandon ship (def jam/roc nation) to warner, sony ANYWHERE,and there is no record company that wouldn’t take rihanna even if she wanted ALL her royalties.Rihanna has established herself as household so with or without roc nation, jay z and def jam she’ll continue to build on her career, setting a higher standard, don’t forget, she is only 24,so her “navy” will grow with her and her music,as for Rita I think she’ll be perfectly fine once she gets past rihanna’s shadow to create her own light,I wish them both well, and all of this is just jay Z’s business move or risk,it might from a business standpoint, which will fail if she (rita) doesn’t change,or personal,a disturbed relationship between him and ririh which won’t change the person that rihanna is or prevent her from doing what she sees fit to do.

Rita will be bigger and better because she can actually sing and Rita doesn’t have to rely on her looks to get her by. Rita is talented. Rihanna is just a pretty face with mediocre talent if any, I’m actually surprised she’s gotten this far.
