US Charts: Nicki Minaj’s Sizable Slump & Monica’s Slow Start

It looks like Nicki Minaj’s chances of matching the success of her ‘Pink Friday’ debut album with ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ have dropped drastically. Indeed, along with the probability of the latter record being having such a major impact, the sales of LP have also took a tumble.

Experiencing a 68% drop sales dip, ‘Roman Reloaded’ sold only 81K copies while falling to #3 on the Billboard 200 this week. The record debuted at #1 in the last frame with 253K copies sold and made Minaj the first female rapper to score multiple #1 albums on the chart.

However, while Minaj suffered a popularity decline this week, Adele’s ’21′ maintained impressive momentum. The LP sold another 92K copies at #2 for a new sales total of 8.73 million copies. This was the only the second week that the album sold less than 100K units since being released in February 2011.

Finally, Monica’s ‘New Life’ slightly exceeded expectations by entering the Billboard 200 at #4. The album sold just over 69K copies and surpassed the 65K cap that was predicted last week. However, these figures still represent a drop from the 184K copies in opening sales by Monica’s previous album, ‘Still Standing’, in 2010.

See the leading releases in the top 10 of both Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 below:

    Billboard 200

I live in a small town and just took it for granted that my local
Wal Mart would have Mo’s album…NOPE! I guess they didn’t ship enough copies and I didn’t think to order it online ahead of time. But I think she OVER-sold the predictions by about 10K. Artists need to a better job of making their albums seem appealing…and not just tweeting the title as a hashtag. That only worked for Wale..lol

Not true, at the end of RITD’s run and before SLY caught on, she was slipping. At her lowest, I wanna say 60k-something but I don’t remember but she was definitely in the 80s and 90s for a bit.

Even if she was selling in the 80′s and 90s that ain’t een nowhere near slipping. That is still amazing. Atleast Monica sold a few more copies more. If she had hit single and a little more promo she would have done so much better.

Nicki’s sales weren’t that drastic though.

Where the hell did MDNA go? I see Lionel got to #1 like he was supposed to when it debuted. Nicki’s album is trash and it has not changed pop/hip hop culture like she said it would.

Sad sad sad. I really don’t feel bad for Monica, she need a new team. And she don’t need to work with her cousin polow because his sound is not right for her. Monica fyi, if its not broke don’t try and fix it. She need to work with Diane warren again and others who actually know how to write a song.

@DRB will Billboard says you are WRONG. This is the lowest sales week of 21. The only other week is sold less that 100,000 was during Xmas when it sold 98000. STAY ——-> MAD.

I’m not surprised by these sales at all. Trent, btw you made a typo under “Billboard 200″ and put “Still Standing” instead of “New Life”. If you care. Lol

That is not true. I’ve been following it since its release. It fell during the break between RITD and SLY in August.

tuskegee is an awesome album. I had to listen to Monica 4x to fall in love with it. I LOVE SWV album it has RnB but is also upbeat ( what I was expecting from Monica). I will buy Nicki album when amazon has a 1.99 sale no shade..

Really glad for Monica as it could have been a lot worse and its good that a PURE R&B album can still get in the top 5.
