Mariah Carey Thrills With ‘Hero’ & ‘Emotions’ In Austria

Mariah Carey performs at the 'Top of the Mountain' concert in Austria.
Yesterday, footage of Mariah Carey’s performances at the Top of the Mountain concert in Austria but it was unclear whether she was actually singing live. However, new clips of the diva singing her classic hits ‘Emotions’ and ‘Hero’ have surfaced, and should end any speculation regarding the condition of her legendary voice.
Scaling through the octaves in the freezing cold, Carey handled both ‘Hero’ and ‘Emotions’ live while adding playful ad libs to the arrangement. Don’t expect to hear thunderous belting similar to her performances in 1996, though, because Carey’s voice is clearly thinner than it was in her younger years.

Carey’s rendition of ‘Emotions’ should end any rumours suggesting that she can’t sing her famous high notes anymore. She performed the song live and proved that even blistering cold weather can’t stop her from hitting her mark.
The only issue that is inhibiting Carey’s performances is her lack of stamina. She simply can’t connect a few dozen riffs and runs while belting like she did in her youth. Indeed, Carey’s huge range is still there and she could easily swoop through it but not while belting in full voice.

Ever been in that kind of altitude? Even breathing is difficult much less performing freaken EMOTIONS! Arguably one of the hardest songs in her catalog. Simmer down haters..
ummmm so now its the high altitude .. at mj’s funeral it was the emotion (which i understood) then they played her emancipation of mimi concert on tv and that was horrible vocally and if ppl think im lyin PLEASE go watch it .. he voice is unbearly shakey and cracks every other note .. im not sayin mariah isnt a legend because wen she was on her game she was ON it but shes a shell of her former self unfortunatly and i dont kno whose to blame at her relatively young age but for ppl to constantly make excuses for her .. come on now .. unless shes been singing live at the top of a mountain for the past 5 years

What Emancipation of Mimi concert did you watch cause the one I’ve seen and own has really good vocals. I mean, Vision of Love leading into Fly Like a Bird..were those not live? You can’t expect her to sound just like she did in 1990. She’s human. We physically change. Did you not watch her Christmas concert she did when she was pregnant? Was that not live? You can’t expect someone who relies on something they saw on a friend’s TV for facts. Real fans know that Mariah has sang her ass off for years and that’s what contributed to her vocal demise. Sold out tours year after year, live performances on every major network in the US and around the world. Mariah does not play around with promotion.
These days she’s not here to sway any nay-sayers. She’s taking care of herself personally and professionally. Despite her vocal nodules, and suffering a miscarriage/depression in the last couple of years Mariah has bounced back! If anyone has seen performances from late 2008-2009 they know she really struggled with the condition of her voice, but it sounds amazing now. She has texture back to it and she is able to play around with songs like she used to. She is doing her thing and it’s really sad that people try to tear her down no matter what she does. You can’t even hear a damn thing in this performance because the fans who filmed it are screaming their heads off singing into the camera’s microphone. So that just goes to show that people don’t give a damn what you do…they will still bash you. Mariah is the shit! If dumb broads like Katy Perry and Rihanna are considered talented, I don’t know what the world has come to…?? lol. Leave Mariah alone and allow to her to do what she does. Your fav could/would/will never perform in these conditions. Mariah is GLOBAL. You queens need to get a life.

God knows how much I admire & respect this woman but this is….*sad face* Whistles are meaningless when the rest of the performance is so stiff and the belting is so powerless.
Girl, why not asking your staff to do a better job with the stage? Like seriously, I believe people paying euros to see you sing deserve better than that.
And that “Shape” cover is lame when you see how her body really looks like. Is okay not being perfect, you know?

P.S. Whistles were great!
She could still hit certain high notes but I don’t think she can actually sing a whole song in chest voice. Don’t get me wrong, I am not belittling her or anything but I can tell her voice is really damaged. She’s in her mid 40s now so her voice has aged a lot but her vocals don’t sound healthy. Her chords sound shot and thank God she has good technique to get her through performances. Those whistle notes and forcing herself to belt will not do her voice any good.

I am a REAL Mariah fan and as a person who has a degree in vocal performance, I have said for YEARS that Mariah lacked good vocal technique. She is a very gifted and talented singer, but her lack of proper technique has led to her current vocal condition. Make all the excuses you want, but her voice is damaged and she sound bad here. No one is trying to diminish her accomplishments or her status in the industry, but the truth is the truth. She sounds like a person doing a bad impersonation of Mariah Carey.
First of all she’s not in her mid fourts, get that correct. Some of the belting was really good. I think a few of y’all just wanna have something to complain about. Haters<<<<………. She is tiff, she needs to loosen up. The whistles were excellent, she did some belting which was still good. She's singing at an high altitude. The dress was also not very flattering. I think what she wears alot, stifles her movement. Shejust neds to relax and let go. She had her good moments though. Haters will act as though she was bad which she was fae from….
And Trent you don’t have to keep trying to proe what you’re saying so that you don’t seem biased. Furthermore, people with common sense will know that given a critique isn’t making excuses.

@KingMarlon you have a degree in vocal performance? Lol…. Well you need to get your money back, because anyone who knows what a real vocalist is will tell you that at her best Mariah is the best technical vocalist period. She’s known for being a great technical vocalist. What are you smoking….
Like I said on the other post, MC will never have the vocal stamina that she once had. She can still sing, but she set the bar so high that even she can’t sing her songs like she did before, (however, no one else today can either). I think she should change up the arrangements of her songs that are too hard for her to sing. Also, she needs to change her set list up. I love “Hero,” “Make It Happen,”and “Emotions,” but I would love to hear her sing more of her album cuts that people don’t know about.

Why is she performing at a ski resort?… She sounds nice and all but these performances are dull. She needs to find nice warm venue somewhere, have an actual set and give a proper show.
If this was Xtina or any other vocalist Trent would rip them a new one but since it’s Mariah it’s excuse after excuse, Mariah is all smoke and mirrors and has been for YEARS. Folks praising her Xmas special come on the was majorly dubbed, I would love to see her perform 100% live with no pre-recorded vocals just her a band and back-up singers, she has done that since the mid to late 90′s.
No excuses, just pure facts. Everyone should see how hard it is since even breathing is difficult when you’re on the top of a mountain. Cold and air presure afect specially one’s throat. She was in the ALPS (see the landscape videos) MC did very well.
The whole dance/lights production was very poor. I give you(haters) that. She shouldn’t wear black with a black background.

@Beyfan Beyonce’s been trying to do things that she calls new, but it’s been the same ole same ole, she has nothing on Mariah, so you and her can have a seat together. She actually sounds good contrary to what you are claiming. Beyonce can’t hold a candle to her. Beyonce’s voice is plain basic, and what she calls soul is nothing more than screaming and tring too hard.
