Did you know that Brandy has yet to score a #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart?
Of Brandy’s five studio albums – ‘Brandy’, ‘Never Say Never’, ‘Full Moon’, ‘Afrodisiac’ and ‘Human’ – and her ‘The Best of Brandy’ compilation, none of them have landed atop the Billboard 200. In fact, the singer’s ‘Never Say Never’ and ‘Full Moon’ ranked as her highest-charting releases when they peaked at #2 in 1998 and 2002, respectively.
On the Billboard Hot 100, Brandy has notched two chart-topping singles – ‘The Boy is Mine (with Monica)’ and ‘Have You Ever?’. Furthermore, of her seven top ten singles on the chart, only ‘What About Us?’ was achieved post-2000. The song peaked at #7 on the Hot 100 in 2002.

SEE. IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL. SO PEOPLE BETTER STOP SHADING RIHANNA
@…: The thing with Rihanna though is that she is a pop artist (who appeals heavily to the mainstream) and has at least one hit per album along with big promotion from her label and mixed with the fact that she is very popular i.e. always in the news, on the radio, etc. You’d think after all of that she would have at least one #1 album..
Rihanna and Brandy are two different types of artists.
@ THE COMMENT ABOVE, IT IS A BIG DEAL, AND THERE’S A BIG DIFFERENCE BRANDY CAN ACTUALLY SING BUDDY AND RIHANNA CANT SING FOR SHIT! ESPECIALLY (LIVE) AND HAS 4 PLAT ALBUMS RIHANNA ONLY HAS (1) 2X FAILED ALBUM…. DONT EVER TRY BRANDY LIKE THAT AGAIN LMAO
Never say never >>>>>>>>>>>>>
WHATEVER. BRANDY WAS HUGEEE IN THE 90′S. AND SHE SOLD MORE THAN RIHANNA HAS SO SHE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 1 NUMBER ONE ALBUM.
TOO BAD. SHE HAS PAST HER PRIME. THE NAVY HAS ONLY BEGUN. RIHANNA IS ON HER WAY TO BEING A LEGEND AND THE NEXT ALBUM WILL GO STRAIGHT TO NUMBER 1
Brandy’s not past her prime. She’s going to find a new resurgance just like Mary J with “No More Drama” and “The Breakthrough”, Mariah with “Emancipation of Mimi” after “Glitter” and “Charmbracelet” obstacles, and Toni Braxton with “The Heat” breaking her into the 2000s.
Omarion has two number one albums, it’s really about timing.
@Lonny you said it! It has everything to do with timing and very little to do with sales. Look at The Game. He released his RED Album with only 98K first week in sales but he debuted at number one because of the timing. In other words, there were no major mainstream acts impeding him from going to number one. Brandy had a lot of competition back in the 90s but she still prevailed and managed to sell MILLIONS! While Brandy has far more talent than Rihanna, I will say that timing is usually her downfall from getting a number one album as well. If Rihanna was to release an album in say September, she’d go straight to number one, provided that no other mainstream act releases a project around that time. Let’s be honest, a number one album isn’t everything. Like I said The Game debuted at number 1 but his album tanked. Chris Brown had a number 1 album with FAME and still has yet to sell or ship a million copies. It’s not that big of a deal, just bragging rights I suppose.
Brandy has pasted her prime? I swear some on ya’ll eat shit for dinner.
Anyway, she’ll get her #1 with this new album. i can feel it.
Where Brandy shines is the R&B chart. Didn’t she have like 9#1 singles on there? (Can’t remember but I remember the advertisements when they released her Best of Brandy album)
You are lying to yourself if you say a #1 album don’t mean anything… every artist wants their album to be #1 and #1 single. That’s like saying “second best is good enough”. The people who say #1 means nothing are making excuses. Brandy is very talented and chances are she can achieve #1 album with the anticipation of this album, singles choices and promotions.
@DJ Rihanna’s albums have all sold 1 million+ She has sold over 28 million of them, ya’ll talkk about her sales like she has sold like 20 copies her whole career.
I agree with @Ni
What is the point of this post? Brandy’s cultural impact is so much more of a relevant piece of a discussion about her career than chart position. Number one singles are nice, but they don’t really mean much. Not sure why so many blogs obsess about chart position. Billboard changes its rules so often that you can’t compare chart position over time because you actually aren’t comparing the same data. This post provides nothing.
Loud sold nearly 1.6 million, (GGGB)
GGGB sold nearly 3 million, so those did good. She had a gold album when she just started to establish herself, a platinum one, and the current one which will go platinum. Should she be selling more? Yes… But she does sale, just not perhaps as much as she should. Brandy is amazing. Her album sales minus her last two albums were very good.
