Did you know that the Beastie Boys were the third Hip-Hop group inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?
Following Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five (2007) and Run-D.M.C. (2009), the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. However, on May 4th 2012 – less than a month after being honored at the April 14th ceremony – a founding member of the band, Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch, died after a three-year battle with cancer.
The Beastie Boys achieved six studio albums that were certified platinum or higher by the RIAA. Their biggest-selling LP is their ‘Licensed to Ill’ debut, which is certified 9x platinum with sales exceeding 9 million copies in the US. The record led the Billboard 200 for seven weeks.
