Did you know that Prince wrote Sinead O’Conner’s global hit ‘Nothing Compares 2 You’?
Prince originally wrote ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ for the band The Family. However, the track wasn’t released as a single and remained generally unknown until it was covered by O’Conner. The latter scored a monster hit with the song and it climbed to the top of several charts across the globe, including the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Singles Chart.
Sadly, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was O’Conner’s only #1 hit in the US before she damaged her career by slamming the Pope during a performance on ‘Saturday Night Live’. Watch the video for her version of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, listen to Prince’s live 1993 recording of the song and see O’Conner’s notorious ‘SNL’ performance below:

I loved this song and really thought Sinead was going to be huge until she ripped that picture of the pope…and then I knew it was a wrap for her…it’s too bad.
I still prefer Prince and Rosie singing over Sinead.
I remember when I first heard this song and saw the video… that haunting voice and those tears in the video to an all-black backdrop… LORDT! :’-( I would just cry for no reason…
Nice to see a music minute on an Irish artist! She’s still doing crazy stuff over here in Ireland!
She’s crazy (literally) but a nice woman and still very talented.
