When Whitney Houston’s final recording, ‘Celebrate’, surfaced earlier this week, many people were unimpressed by her vocals. However, behind the shroud of thick production, the late diva’s voice surprisingly still had some weight as displayed in her moving rendition of ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’.
Along with ‘Celebrate’, which features Jordin Sparks, ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’ will reportedly appear on the ‘Sparkle’ movie soundtrack. The production was the final project of Houston’s eventful life. Listen to ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’ below:
Yes, Houston’s tone had drastically changed from the once sweet soprano of her youth but her rough alto suit ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’ perfectly. Disregarding the specifics of the actual vocal performance, Houston sang with conviction and interpreted the song brilliantly.
‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’ proves that even when Houston wasn’t pitch-perfect, she was still a wonderful entertainer. Hopefully, that aspect of her legacy will inspire the lazy Pop singers of the younger generation to improve.
I miss Whitney so much. This song made me shed a tear.
Love. Sing to the Master. Hes worthy. Love you Whit
At ceertain part in the song her voice sounded strained but
overall she sounded like the Whitney of old. If only she had
lived she would have a great comeback.
This…. is making me emotional tho
This song just took me back to a sad place. Whitney was really trying to improve her voice. Sounds like a real soul/gospel artist. Ily Nippy.
Sing it Nippy! Singers like Whitney and Mariah have that raw talent in their bones. No matter the condition of their voices they still sound good and know how to tear a song up. Musical talent cannot be diminished by vocal problems.
[...] Props: Trent [...]
Whitney did that!
I love this rendition… R.Kelly “Celeberate” did nothing for me, but we have to be reminded that the songs settin is in the 60′s not 2011…
2012…OOPS
beautiful but not the same
