Mary J. Blige lives the fabulous yet lonely life in her new video, ‘Why’. Featuring Rick Ross, the visual was shot to support the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul’s ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1)’ album.
‘My Life II’ has thus far been certified gold by the RIAA with sales nearing 600K copies in the US. However, the record has yet to yield a top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100 – a feat that Blige has not achieved as a lead artist since ‘Be Without You’ from ‘The Breakthrough’ album peaked at #3 in 2005.

It is quite difficult to understand the relation between this video and the actual song ‘Why’. Honestly, the clip is just a regular Hip-Hop/R&B clip that showcases wealth without any real depth. Still, as this era of Blige’s career draws to a close, it should suffice, especially since the chances of ‘Why’ being a major success on the Hot 100 were quite slim, regardless of its accompanying visual.
She needs to release ‘Love a women’ and have a really sick video (THAT TELLS A FREAKIN STORY OF HEARTBREAK) and have Bey in it. It her only chance to have a mainstream/Urban hit from this era. This needs to happen. Trent, send a memo to mary please lol
not every artist needs or are looking for top 10 hot 100 songs, she doing just as well as artist with #1 hot 100 songs
@Wonderland19 Kendu (Mary’s hubby) has said Mary didn’t approve of this being released as a single. She wanted Feel Inside, Why isn’t one of her favorites. But her boss Jimmy Iovine tells her what song she will make a video for
@Anymous, Oh. Well its a shame at her level she is still being told what to release. Her label should give her more creative control. Shes a legend and she shouldn’t be struggling like this.
