Get ready to celebrate another milestone in Adele’s career because her ’21′ album has reached the border of a major accomplishment. The record has sold accumulated total US sales of 8.99 million copies and will surpass the 9 million sales mark next week!

Since being released in February 2011, ’21′ has been certified 9x platinum in the US and continues to race toward diamond statues. With 8.99 million copies sold in the US, of which 3.16 million was moved in 2012 alone, ’21′ is the best-selling album since Usher’s ‘Confessions’ in 2004.

Additionally, ’21′ is the only album to sell north of 1 million copies in the US in 2012, thus far. Its nearest competition are Whitney Houston’s ‘Whitney: The Greatest Hits’ and Lionel Richie’s ‘Tuskegee’, which have sold 765K and 679K copies this year.

Expect ’21′ to return to the top of the Billboard 200 next week for a 24th frame at the summit. Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj’s ‘Roman Reloaded’ has already exited the top 10 of the chart, despite just being released on April 3rd.

See the leading releases in the top 10 of both Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 below:

not surprising at all the album is on it’s 5th single all of which have been big hits reaching hot 100 top 5 or #1 and selling at least 1.5 million copies each. Tuskegee is note worthy because it’s Mr Richie’s first platinum album in a quarter of a century since Dancing On The Cealing went 4x platinum

Why did Norah Jones stop promoting her albums? She could be Adele’s competition with the right material & promo.

@LSZ, I know! Norah is amazing, all her albums are really good but she needs to step her promo the f**k UP.

[...] Since April 3rd, ‘Roman Reloaded’ has only sold 436K copies in the US. Minaj made several major promotional appearances to promote the record but it quickly tumbled out of the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and landed at #17 on the chart last week. [...]
