Chris Brown Brings Auto-Tune To ‘The Today Show’

Chris Brown performs on 'The Today Show'
Remember when you were a child and you sang into your fan so that your voice would sound robotic like Optimus Prime from ‘Transformers’? Well, Chris Brown clearly enjoyed doing that so much that he fashioned an auto-tuned microphone for his performances on ‘The Today Show’.
Singing live for the first time in months, Brown delivered dance-heavy renditions of ‘Forever’, ‘Turn Up the Music’ and ‘Yeah 3x’ while being backed by a track and thick auto-tune. His appearance on the ‘Today Show’ Summer Concert Series was orchestrated to support his upcoming ‘Fortune’ album, which will hit stores on July 3rd.

So, when Brown isn’t lip-syncing he opts to use an auto-tuned mic. It’s really a shame because he has the potential to be much better than that. If he would simply take a short trip to a vocal coach to build his vocal stamina then he just might be able to hold a note without the extra assistance.
Here is my advice: sing a live intro, dance then sing while doing basic steps, pause for a dance break and end on a high note. How hard is that for Brown to handle?

Burn the autotune mic. I rather hear him go flat or sharp then autotuned…because autotune makes him sound sharp anyway.
“Turn up the Music” was performed great though. Dancing and live singing, without the extra effect mic.
He just performed “Don’t Wake Me Up” which was a blend of regular vocals and autotuned chorus. His songs like “Forever” were recorded in autotune but still…it does not translate live well that way.
Trent my dude.. yes he performed with autotune but you’re overlooking the fact TUTM was done without any autotune and he really did a great job. he also just performed Don’t Wake Me Up which went well too (couldn’t hear him in the chorus but still)

He is not hating, he said Chris should sing live and gave a suggestion. He even pointed out that Chris has potetional, you knew nobody would have anything nice to say about HIM autotuning himself so if you disagree just watch the performances and Ignore trent!

I agree what Trent is saying…I hate auto-tune and I do wish he would stop using it because it’s annoying. Like the previous comment by Lonny auto doesn’t translate well when he sings it live. It makes me cringe sometimes. I love Chris I want to thank him for the free music and concert he gave us, but I just want him to show the world that he doesn’t need the auto-tune. It’s more of a hinderance to his true vocal ability. Buy Fortune July 3rd. Peace!!!

just because Trent points out Chris’ flaws does not mean he doesn’t appreciate his work. You chris brown groupies need to sit your asses down. Trent spoke nothing but the truth. Trent Chris is just an average vocalist. His voice is very shrill, you pick and choose who you wannna big-up. Chris is not a great vocalist. Dcent perhaps.

This is so awful. If he wants to dance than maybe he should rethink his career. He’s a singer so he should balance out his singing and dancing because he wasn’t trained as everyone can see to do both at the same time. Everyone knows he can dance, it time to show off your vocal abilities. Auto-tune sucks anyone that uses it should be ashamed.
Chris is my boy! but he needa give that auto tune mic back to Tpain. His performances were good but it wouldve been waaay better without the auto tune.

The concert was really boring, same ole, same ole. The auto tune was terrible and he did the same tired dance moves. Also, the crowd wasn’t as hyped as when he performed last year. Just my opinion.

i totally agree with you on this. I’ve always wonder why he doesn’t do. I had such high hopes for him. I thought he could be the new Usher. He’s still doing pretty well though.
