Did you know that legendary duo Ashford & Simpson wrote and produced some of the most popular hits of the 20th century?
Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson were among the most successful songwriters and producers of the last 50 years. Among the songs that the pair co-wrote include Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s ‘Ain’t Not Mountain high Enough’, Chaka Khan’s ‘I’m Every Woman’ and Ray Charles’ ‘I Don’t Need No Doctor’.
Additionally, Ashford & Simpson produced Diana Ross’ iconic self-titled debut album as well as her ‘The Boss’ LP. They even crafted Ross’ first solo single, Reach Out & Touch (Somebody’s Hand)’.

They need an Unsung episode because I feel as though they don’t get the recognition that they deserve. They wrote so many classics but I bet many people don’t know who they are.
And people could learn so much from them about how they were able to maintain their marriage while still working with each other.
They were great! Even the Soul Train Awards has an “Ashford & Simpson” songwriting award named in their honour.
One of the greatest songwriting/producing teams in music history… We miss you, Ashford!
