Did you know that Diana Ross has scored six #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist?
Since her departure from The Supremes in 1970, Ross has notched six #1 songs on the Hot 100. These tunes include her voce of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, ‘Touch Me in the Morning’ and ‘Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)’.
The Supremes placed twelve #1 singles on the Hot 100 while Ross was still a member of the group and several people incorrectly tally her total collection of #1 hits as eighteen. However, since Ross is registered as a separate act from The Supremes, her actual total figure is six.
Watch Ross perform ‘Theme from Mahogany’ below:
and to think she doesn’t have a grammy. Talk about injustice.
I love this song though.
Yas serve that tea.
I believe The Supremes’ commercial achievements are grossly underrated in modern culture.
You hear about The Beatles all the time, yet the ONLY act second to them in a time where British boybands were most dominant were three, poised, beautiful black girls from Detroit who demonstrated to a very racist Western world that not only black people but women could be the best.
