Teairra Mari’s ‘U Did That’ hasn’t made a major impact on the charts so she has switched gears and focused her attention on another project. ‘Lil Mama’ is the lead single from the struggling singer’s upcoming ‘Unfinished Business’ mixtape, which will be released on July 4th.
Later this year, Mari will issue her ‘Sex on the Radio’ album. The record is being helmed by Rico Love, whom she spoke of during her ‘Teairra Mari: Then & Now’ special. Listen to ‘Lil Mama’ below:
‘Lil Mama’ is a solid R&B record that showcases Mari’s undeniable ability to sing impressively over a Hip-Hop beat. It may not sound like a very difficult feat but many delivering a good vocal performance with believable swagger over this type of production isn’t the easiest task.
It’s such a shame that Mari just can’t seem to win. She is very talented but she lacks the label resources and promotion for her to truly make an impact. Hopefully, Mari will win in the longrun and won’t end up singing demo tapes for Kelly Rowland or the other artists working with Love.

how is it not working for her though!! Herr vocals are tight!
Good Job!!
much better!
I don’t really like the song but I will give her a gold star for the vocals, they were decent.
It’s too bad… “Sponsor” was my summer anthem/hit in 2010. lol I want her to win, seeing as how she’s from my city… but she’s got to work a bit harder!
this sounds dated…and very indiscernible from her older material. I like Teairra and Rico…just miss the versatility that I got excited about upon hearing ‘built for this’ and ‘operator’…I just feel like there isn’t a huge market for the sound that she has been stuck in…and the audience is so limited that it would be so difficult to have mainstream success….not saying she has to sell out but find a marketable medium….
Rico should market her properly. Her style is too urban and the urban market doesn’t even buy singles how much more albums.
