Nicki Minaj chats with Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97.
Nicki Minaj called into Funkmaster Flex’s show on Hot 97 show this evening and the interview exploded into a major argument. From Minaj quoting inaccurate album sales to Flex yelling on the line, this chat was one of the most vicious showdowns in radio history.
Minaj was intended to perform on Hot 97′s Summer Jam concert this weekend but cancelled her appearance because of host Peter Rosenberg’s diss of her ‘Starships’ single. That incident lead to Flex proclaiming that he will destroy her career in retaliation.

I can understand where Nicki’s coming from. What Rosenburg said was totally unprofessional and out of place. He’s a representation of the radio station (that hired her to perform) and to come out and say what he said when she’s headlining is disrespectful not only to Nicki but to Hot 97 (his employers) and the fans who bought tickets to Summer Jam in hopes of seeing. The same ticket sales that help to pay his wage. It’s hypocritical.

Rosenberg was unprofessional for saying what he said at that time but so was Wayne and Nicki for pulling out of the show. But my issue with Nicki is her audacity of trying to make it a feminist type of issue. So, a man can’t have an opinion on her but a man can control her movements and teach her about her self worth. How can someone else teach you about your own worth? She wasn’t thinking about her worth when she was calling herself Wayne’s mistress. She wasn’t thinking about the worth of women when she was dissing the old female rappers. How dare she expect respect when she doesn’t give it to anyone else? So this excuse of knowing her worth is straight b.s. I don’t believe that is the issue. I think that she’s hiding behind Wayne. I’m sure that she has gone against his wants before.
And she said that her name sold a lot of tickets for the Summer Jam. So how is it even possible for Rosenberg’s comments to even remotely rally the crowd against her. If her fans made up a majority of the crowd, how would they be against her at all?
At the end of the day, she along with Hot 97 collectively are at fault. It doesn’t matter what is said and how you feel. Leave those feelings at the door. You were commissioned to do a show, people paid to see you and you should’ve showed up and showed out regardless of 1 person’s disdain for a song.
On to her sales: everyone knows that gold certification is based on shipments not sales so how can she not be gold. She does not need to sell 500k in order to be certified. She should’ve gone gold long ago because I’m sure that her label has sent out 500k copies. She says that she’s selling videos and singles but what about albums, girl? How are you going to get those albums off the shelf?
