Rihanna’s Radio 1 Hackney Weekend Performances Inspire Change

Written by Trent | Filed under Jay-Z,Rihanna
    Rihanna Hackney Weekend TheLavaLizard

Rihanna performs at the 2012 BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend.

Rihanna performed alongside Jay-Z during the first day of the 2012 BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend festival and she returned today to give her fans a second showing. However, despite the magnificent layout of her Egyptian stage, the Barbadian was far from exciting and somehow inspiring.

Stumbling across the Hackney Weekend stage, Rihanna seemed utterly bored and lazy during renditions of ‘S&M’, ‘Disturbia’ and several of her other hits. Indeed, it looked as though one of the mummies from ancient Egypt had risen from the grave to inflict chaos on the world with her army of off-key notes.

Watch Rihanna in action at the Hackney Weekend show below:

    ‘Only Girl (In the World)’

    ‘Disturbia’

    ‘S&M’

    ‘Love the Way You Lie’

    ‘Where Have You Been’

    Medley (with Jay-Z)

Rihanna has truly changed my life with these performances. Instead feeling upset or angry while watching her onstage, I somehow feel motivated to get in shape, improve my eating habits and enjoy more sleep.

Why am I so inspired by Rihanna? Only when we witness the lowest of lows can we appreciate the better side of life. So, let’s all thank Rihanna for encouraging us to do better and being a constant reminder of why laziness is one of the seven deadly sins.

    Thoughts?

From the vocals to the outfit, Rihanna was just a mess. I actually like this girl but slowly she is just watering down her artistry. I hope she brings it for the next album…cause girl…

You know, I actually ignore other blogs and look TO YOU. For reviews. Because you are honest. But I didn’t like this review. I don’t think she was as lackadaisical as she usually is. She actually worked the crowd and did little dances. I appreciated her improvement. She still has a long way to go, but she is doing slowly progressing. Especially in the Love the way you lie portion. I was very surprised and proud of her. This is me comparing her from before to now.

are you serious Trent? seriously? You must have ear problems if you can’t admit this was at LEAST and okay performance. i personally thought she slayed but haters should admit she did fantastic. from her energy and interaction with the crowd, to her outfit, to Jay z coming out, OH and to the Queen Bey jamming to TTT front row.. princess Robyn KILLED it! she’s so bad ass i swear and the ultimate shade thrower. “sweeter than YOUR rice cake” had me laughinggggggggggggg! hoemyGAWSH how can u not love her? she’s not going anywhere, besides WHYB will soon be #1. and TTT isn’t flopping rita WHORA is.. Jay needs to stop tryna make “fetch” happen cuz it AINT happening! anyways rih.. continue snatching wigs and having killer performances.

No no. Youre looking at this wrong. Shes using her AMAZING acting skills from Battleship and to show us what a bad performance would look, sound, and feel like. What a good actress!
On a less sarcastic note though, I feel like shes trying to up her dance game seeing as weve seen through her ‘style’ (sure would explain her lack of clothes as of late). At least I hope she is cuz her voice seems to be declining. Those last notes of Only Girl were a little strugglin. Yeah its live but shes been doin this too long to use that as an excuse. The background vocalists were good…

I agree Leona looked amazing and her performances were amazing! Rihanna got lazy plain and simple. Trent said it how it is, if you don’t like it then leave. Bloggers shouldn’t sugarcoat anything.

“As long as she’s getting money, why would she care? smh”

This is probably the dumbest excuse I’ve ever heard in defense of a poor showing. She should care because this is her JOB. She’s an ~artist, a ~singer, an ~entertainer. If she doesn’t care about her craft, why the fuck should anyone else?

Well, I hope that this inspires you to give us another episode of TTTV. I will say that that intro was great. That stage was magnificent. I’m wondering how it is that she had an Egyptian theme but she herself didn’t dress the part.

I don’t understand why she won’t just do better. It’s not that hard to do better. All you have to do is try and she isn’t trying hard enough. I root for her all the time but she always finds a way to make me mad for doing so. Yes, she is making big time money, but what will her legacy be? Will we all look back at her career and be happy and thankful that we witnessed it? At this point, no. She needs to get it all the way together.

    16. GirlWhat? says:
      June 24, 2012 at 8:08 pm

I don’t see the problem and her dancing is better. I like especially the little dubstep breakdown on Disturbia. I understand you need hits seeing that this site gets on average 2 comments a post.

Your hate hurts your credibility more than anything, your sounding really really dumb right now Trent, God I hope you see and know that.

    25. ni says:
      June 25, 2012 at 12:27 am

Why is it when Trent or anyone disagree or make a comment that does not ooze compliments they are a “hater”. People can have an opinion that does not coincide with others. She is lazy and people continue to make excuses such as she tried or put down other artists to make this person somewhat look good. She is suppose to be singer, entertainer and she continues to show how little she care about her craft. Never would you see artists like Michael, Mariah, Chris, Whitney, Usher, Beyonce, Celine perform like this. Your fans should be your motivation to do better not half ass performance. She is a reflection of her fans who could care less how horrible she is as long as she is cute and a rebel.

    27. theman says:

Trent you were kinda off on this one, she had bright moments with this set. She did really good with “LTWYL”, “OGITW” was very decent, and she interacted with the crowd well. She carried alot of stage presence here. Trent if you despise her performances and music that much then stop making post about it. Period……. She isn’t always as terrible as you make her out to be. Just because other artists aren’t all hyper and act like they have that strung out energy like Beyonce, doesn’t mean that they are lazy. She didn’t really seem that lazy here. These were actually some of her better performances.

    28. Terrence says:
      June 25, 2012 at 4:24 am

@ni, please, you sound pressed and stupid like Trent does with this over the top bullshit, sorry but the people who didnt like this show are in the minority, get over it. And Mariah’s looking and sounding better than Mariah has in years, and I’m not much of a fan of neither of them, but I call it as I see it.

    29. pika. says:
      June 25, 2012 at 4:48 am

So this is what is considered good or slayed as her fans put it? Well if this is the Rihanna standards that ur all talking about, then her standards are ryt there with the ants!

Okay this is no surprise that trent isn’t the biggest rihanna fan but he makes posts like this bashing her so that all of you can come in the comment section so he can get his hits. He has to make money too

    32. Doo Whoop says:
      June 25, 2012 at 2:24 pm

@Cranberry…. do you know what sarcasm is (wow..)…? You just said what I meant… most of her performances are “blah” anyway. It’s been a long time now that she doesn’t give a fuck to give her audience a good performance…

    33. Tired says:
      June 25, 2012 at 2:40 pm

      Trent!

I was THERE last night. I thought she actually did a good job for once. I have seen her 4 times now and she has disappointed me so much BUT *this* time she gave me life. And before y’all say it, I am NOT easy to please. Yes, I am a Rih fan, but I am the first to complain about her laziness usually. This time, though, she did great and waiting in that FIERCE crowd for over two hours was worth it… for ONCE.

    34. Ben M. says:
      June 25, 2012 at 3:00 pm

“Disturbia” is my fave song from her, and she was boring on that stage during that performance. However, I did like her S&M and “Only Girl (In The World)”.

    35. Sharlyn says:
      June 25, 2012 at 7:26 pm

I only like her performance for “Love The Way you Lie”.

    36. Benron says:
      June 25, 2012 at 7:26 pm

The reason he is hating is because DISTURBIA and S&M were AWFUL, the rest was good.

    37. ni says:
      June 26, 2012 at 1:21 am

@terrance and moo… I’m not pressed. I find her hilarious. Her performance are always “alright” only to her stans/fans and I use the wording loosely, because she doesn’t care… and her fans don’t care… mediocre is what she gives… you telling me about Mariah lip synching is doing nothing to help your cause because when she sings live she clearly kills this chick.. so because I state my opinion I am pressed.. whatever… you are funny. :)

    38. Kahari says:
      June 26, 2012 at 3:45 am

Her voice was tolerable at best. So, I’ll cut her some slack because Rihanna is NOT a vocal prowess. She does this thing with her voice where she tries to sound whiny and it often sounds like she’s singing through her nose. Her stage presence was very nonchalant, like she almost didn’t have a care in the world. She needs to humble herself quickly. This “thug life” shit she developed after Chris molly-wopped her ass across the head is getting too far. Slow down on the drinking and smoking weed and really focus on honing your craft, Rihanna.
