Did you know that Macy Gray’s breakthrough debut album is her only release to achieve platinum status in the US?

‘On How Life Is’ has thus been certified 3x platinum by the RIAA in the US. The record included Gray’s breakthrough hit single, ‘I Try’, which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned her Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year as well as Song of the Year, and a win for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Shockingly, none of Gray’s followup albums to ‘On How Life Is’ have been certified platinum in the US and her most successful LP since then is ‘The Id‘, which has reach gold status. Additionally, she has yet to score another Hot 100 hit as a lead artist after ‘I Try’.
