New Song: Mariah Carey – ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em) (Ft. Rick Ross & Meek Mill)’

Written by Trent | Filed under Mariah Carey,Rick Ross
    Mariah Carey Triumphant TheLavaLizard

Mariah Carey’s ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em) (Ft. Rick Ross & Meek Mill)’ single cover.

After almost three years since the release of her ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ album in 2009, Mariah Carey is finally readying a new studio set that will hit stores in the fall. The LP is preceded by this new song, ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em)’, which features contributions from Rick Ross and Meek Mill.

‘Triumphant’ was co-produced by Carey’s longtime collaborators Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, and written by the diva herself. Refusing to waste any time, Carey has already filmed the song’s corresponding video, and announced that the tune will be globally available on iTunes on August 7th and Urban radio on August 13th.

Without wasting any more time, listen to Carey’s ‘Triumphant’ below:

‘Triumphant’ is an ideal song for the current Urban climate. The beat is perfectly suited for radio airplay, and the Ross and Mill features are quite clever to excite the Hip-Hop/R&B crowd. However, those contributions are also the song’s main drawback.

It almost seems as though Carey is a featured act on ‘Triumphant’ and that it’s a Maybach Music song from the ‘Self-Made Vol. 2′ compilation album. That particular aspect is going to make it quite difficult for the song to crossover to the Top 40/Mainstream radio.

Yet, as Carey made it clear to yours truly during a conference call just moments ago, that her intention is not to crossover; she wants to revive Hip-Hop/R&B music without having to crossover to the mainstream formats. So, let’s see how this plays out.

Songs like ‘Triumphant’ are strong digital sellers, though, and with the right promotional campaign, it could place on the Billboard Hot 100 top 20 and go platinum. Carey just needs a stronger second single if she hopes to score a top-selling album. Get ‘em, diva!

Loving Meek & Rick’s verses :D MC’s voice sounds strained and squeaky during the chorus :/ i LOVE the bridge <3 I don't know how this will play out to the rest of the world :$ Can't wait for the remixes

After hearing the snippet, I wasn’t sure what to think but I LOVE the full version!! Just wish there was more Mariah like you said. I think her second single will be red hot! Kinda like in the TEOM era when she released It’s Like That first, which was a good song, but then absolutely slayed by releasing We Belong Together next.

I just… I just wanted more Mariah on the track. Is that too much to ask? I like the song. It’s giving me E=MC2 ‘Migrate’ vibes. I’ll wait for single #2. I pray it’s a ballad.

Idk Trent….This was kind of a let down. This song sounds like an album filler not a lead single. She doesn’t even have a verse on the song….it’s not a bad song by far, but definitely not great or lead single material. I was expecting something epic from her.

…zzzzzzz im a fan but this? nope don’t like it one bit
if this is what the rest of the album is gonna sound like
expect lower sales than the previous two albums…maybe nick should divorce mariah, seems like the only time she puts out good music lately is in really rough periods in her life.

I love love love it! They told me get ‘em and I got ‘em!!!! I have one tiny little issue though. I wish she would have put her vocals between Meek Mill and Rick Ross. Like Trent said, it does sound as if she is the featured artist. But anyway, I love it and will be downloading when it hits iTunes!

I also wanted more Mariah. Meek Mill was fine but including Rick Ross was just overkill. I would have preferred J. Cole since his theme is all about overcoming obstacles. I really like the song but it’s not going to be her 19th.

i liked this song alot and it was a huge step up from her. In terms of first singles because the last first single i liked was it’s like that. Now as far as what i don’t like is the structure is like don’t stop funkin for jamacia where she feels like the featured act but inderstand it’s purpose. With all that said im so ready for this new era .

Trent, seems like he hold back on the criticism! Because if it was another artist lets say “Beyonce”; if Beyonce would’ve released Lift Off as her song he would’ve dragged her to HELL. Even in the Mariah Conundrum video he didn’t go in on Mariah……….. But he says he honest.
s/n the song is cute but not single worthy or my iPod worthy I want the hear more Mariah….. not her singing second hand to D list artist

I’m loving this!! Great lyrics & the rappers -even Ross- sound great.
Some people are still living in the 90s and they can’t get over the fact that that old Mariah they’re missing isn’t coming back anymore. Just deal, this is what she likes and we all should wait for what she’s bringing next. This is a good start though! Get ‘em MC!!

Her lack of presence on the track aside, the production is very generic. Poor lead single, and why do the instrumental feel so weak. This song could’ve done with some strong horns, Woodkid style.

BOOOOOOOOOOORRRRIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNGGGG! I didn’t know she’s resorted to being an addendum on her own stuff. So many problems with this starting with the fact that it doesn’t even sound like her own song. On top of that, the levels are ALL off, not showcasing her powerhouse vocals even in the slightest. How this was picked as the lead single is quite perplexing….

      Yawnnnnn..

Let me take a page from Trents book since when it comes to Mariah he handles her with mittens but trashes anyone he deems competition.

Mariah …honey, that single is garbage, everyone sounds good BUT you.

I would appreciate if you stopped singing so high when your voice can’t support it, it sounds nasal thin and forced. Stop double tracking your leads because this does not hide your flaws, it magnifies them. That mixed yelling that you call belting sounds scretchy

i’m not impressed with this at all. it doesn’t even sound like it’s her song. All this damn rapping. You need to come with something better Mariah. In the meantime, i’ll be waiting.

Yawnnnnn.. Trent this review is not only ass kissing but it’s not fair how you constantly build Mariah up and brake her competition down. So let me tell it like it is since you won’t and never will!

That mixed yelling that you call belting sounds scratchy and it’s not pleasing to ones ear.

Furthermore in the fantasy world of Trent you are the best singer around, but judging by your latest vocal efforts of displays, I as well as other can agree that your voice has seen better days. Lastly please stop with the accesive photoshop because everyone knows you do not look like that.

The same way Trent pokes at Christina Aguilera and gives critismn, he need do the same for Mariah. Stop sugarcoating her flaw and mistakes in order to attack someone else

Now, with all that said I hope Mariah brings more substance to the table. She has the ability to deliver hits, she just needs to work with her aged voice and stop trying to use that pre-rasp range.

Really scared since I’m really disappointed by Triumphant
Not enough Mariah on it, too much rap and I don’t see the song on mainstream radios so no top #30 in the HOT100

      August 2, 2012 at 5:49 pm

After being gone for so long, becoming a mother, and having memoirs and merry christmas II you not sell very well I expected Mariah to comeback stronger, But she didn’t. Triumphant is okay but we need her to make classics again. Triumphant is not lead single material it sounds like an album cut. if she doesn’t want to jump on the Dance/Techno music train at least give us more 90′s style music with big vocals. anyhow i think her voice has improved.

Mariah’s voice sounds amazing on the track. She should/could have been on it more. The song is nice. It is slightly too much rapping on it. It’s a great single, there will also be dance mixes of the song. The vocals/track/song are of great quality…..

I just read that Mariah will be doing dance remixes for Triumphant and it got me thinking. Mariah might get a #1 hit with Triumphant’s dance remix. Everyone listens to dance music nowadays and Mariah does the best dance remixes. This is a good way for her to stay current without loosing artistic integrity. Mariah is very smart.

I agree with what most other people have said, it seems more like mariah is a featured artist on the song, it would be a great buzz single to get people interested in the album but as a lead single i think it may backfire. still love mariah though

    39. Tim says:

This is not it. It sounds like evry other hiphop oriented rnb song out there, her voice is dialed down on the track and its extremely whispery and layered. There snothing new or innovative about the song. She needed to come out with material like Beyonce’s 4. Unique songs with strong powerful lead vocals. This is a major fail.

    40. Kingphoenix says:

Trent your in denial….I think you lambs are going to be for what us Behives endured through the 4 era…an “uncomfortable” lead single setting the past for a brilliant album that will not sell as well in generic music climate. This single will not chart in the top 20 of hot one hundred, but hopefully it does well on R&B charts. Hopefully the second single is better and she uses idol to detour the misteps of the 4 era as well as memoirs of an imperfect angel and emc squared

LMAO!!!! This garbage is what the LAMBS has been waiting for???? LMAO! A review from Slaint Magazine:

So, it should come as no surprise that Mariah would follow-up 2009′s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which was tellingly both rapper-free and a commercial disappointment, with “Triumphant (Get ‘Em),” a dated hip-hop track produced by Jermaine Dupri in the same manner a sick dog produces a bowel movement. It’s easily the worst lead single (possibly the worst single, period) of her two-decade-plus career. JD’s beyond-tired hype-man routine and guest raps by Rick Ross and newcomer Meek Mill dominate the first half of the song, with Mariah literally serving as a hook girl on a track that sorely lacks a strong hook. She finally unleashes a breathy verse of her own about two-thirds of the way through—something about breaking free of chains, seeing mountaintops, reaching for stars, and other brainless platitudes that ostensibly lead to, according to Ross, throwing money at strippers and running highway tolls. It’s not just uninspiring, it’s downright demoralizing. -Slaint Magazine

Trent this just PROVES that you are BIASED when it comes to Mariah and you are just as much a STAN when it comes to defending her, as the other stan bases are (Beyhive, TeamBreezy) whom you constantly provoke and ridicule on twitter and your blog! You can deny it all you want but you KNOW it’s TRUE!

This song is NOT it! It’s beyond basic & it is not lead single material! As many have stated above, Mariah is barely on the damn song! As expected she rounded up two of the hottest, over rated, rappers out now to appeal to a younger demographic and get a quick hit. Weak Mills & Officer Ricky completed dominated the track while Mariah was left to ‘sing’ a couple of breathy hooks. Her vocals were far from impressive, I don’t even know if you can call that singing. She was just breathing into the mic. SMH! It was such a disappointment!

This song doesn’t even deserve to be called a ‘buzz’ single because the buzz is weak & will fade quickly. It will FLOP on the Hot 100 & she will be lucky if it makes top ten on the r&b charts.

I will be patiently waiting for the next single which I hope she is actually singing on.
