    New Video: Beyonce – ‘I Was Here’

    Written by Trent | Filed under Beyonce
    Beyonce I Was Here TheLavaLizard

    Beyonce stars in her new ‘I Was Here’ video.

    Telling time isn’t a skill a common to everybody across the globe as proven by the fact that Beyonce has released her new video for ‘I Was Here’ hours ahead of schedule. However, since she shot the visual for a good cause, we should overlook it and appreciate her selflessness, right?

    The ‘I Was Here’ video was directed by Sophie Muller to help raise awareness for World Humanitarian Day, which is actually tomorrow (August 19th). Don’t expect too many dramatics, though, because this entire production was filmed at United Nations General Assembly Hall and features Beyonce happily basking in the spotlight with a giant screen showcasing the world’s troubles at her back.

    Beyonce previously spoke about the concept of the ‘I Was Here’ video during here visit to Anderson Cooper’s ‘AC360′. See if her attempts to make a difference came to fruition by watching the finished product below:

      Trent what is your problem? Did it ever occur to you that it was released today for a reason? Whenever someone is doing something for a day like this there are always releases the day before. Did you want her to release it tomorrow night? STUPSE Anyway this is a beautiful touching song and the UN couldn’t have chosen a better one.

      Does she think we think she is singing live? and that “I was here” bubble Reminds me of the Kony one (No Shade) Nice Video but whoever directed that should be left dust! I could of thought f that in a minute. Bad lypsyncing + Clips of struggling people + Audience members clapping The basic bitches…

      Anyway the song is cute, the production is on point as always but the lyrics were awful as usual. Anyone who does not see how self obsessed this woman is is blind.

      And Beyonce, you will be remembered. For lying about your age, daughter (Solange), faking a pregnancy, being in a cult called “The Black boule” against people of you own kind (blacks) and just being overall a terrible person. You and Jay-z are the textbook example of horrible people

      And she didn’t edit the video, the people at the UN did. So why are you calling her selfish? It was there doing.

      Can I request you just stop posting on her all together? Please.

    22. LovelySays says:
      August 18, 2012 at 6:28 pm

      I will say what I’ve said before. They should have picked an actual artist who is humanitarian and it shows in their work. And know I am not saying that she doesn’t give back. To me this was just as staged as the rest of her shows. I give it to B for not oversinging, as she often does, but to me this was just…ugh. And whoever did that video behind her could have done a whole lot better! It was basic.

      I don’t like her vocals on this track, it sounds as if she’s struggling to convey power during the second half. This track had a lot of potential but the lyrics hold it back for me along with the generic production towards the later half.

      WOW……she’s just so desperate, she’d use all this for attention, and bank on her own fans mental retardation and is only helping them get worst, instead of paying money for them to get better. So selfish. I have no respet for this women

    35. Amber says:
      August 18, 2012 at 6:58 pm

      The lyrics are lame, the video montage could have been better, and the shots of Beyonce’s fans in the crowd mixed in with shots of starving people were crass. The biggest problem with the song is that “King Bey” (gag) doesn’t have a powerful enough voice to sing it. She’s straining HARD. I’d cut her some slack if I took her concern seriously, but I don’t.

      For the person who brought up Triumphant–yeah, it flopped…and so will I Was Here, just like every other song on 4.

      I’m not a fan of her, but I do admit that she’s really talented and she has a great image too. The fact that people can hate on her just beause she released a video a day early is just stupid.

      @Inc, hey boo! *waves hand* I love Trent’s shade/humor/commentary he is so damn funny. Not everyone has to go along with or agree with everything Beyonce or any other artist does for that matter. You Stan’s of Beyonce are absolutely ridiculous for attacking everyone that comments about her. Didn’t Beyonce use this same song for 9/11 last year and now she is using it again. I guess this time she hopes to get some kind of huge response since the 9/11 tribute wasn’t enough. I’m a fan of her music but I can still have an opinion when I feel that it isn’t genuine, after all, it is my right.

Get off ur asses and do something instead of criticizing someone who is doing something.

      P.S. @china this video and day was b4 Rihanna. Beyoncé cld give 2 shits about Rihanna and her damn interview. She hasn’t cared about what Rihanna does b4 and won’t start now. She spends her time worrying about herself and building her empire.

      Beyonce will donate the proceeds from her latest single and video “I Was Here” to the United Nations’ global campaign to run humanitarian aid organizations, it has been announced. The pop diva and songwriter Diane Warren have joined up with the U.N.-run initiative, which aims to encourage regular people (well, if you think Beyonce is “regular people”) to get involved in charity work. The video for “I Was Here” will be shot at the U.N. General Assembly Hall in front of a live audience that may not consist entirely of world dignitaries. The single and video will be released worldwide on Aug. 19, which so happens to be World Humanitarian Day”

      This isnt a news blog, its merely a struglling gossip blog masked as a ‘music blog’. The writer, and I use that word loosley, does no form of research before posting anything. What this struggling blog writer is doing is blogging 101, pit the readers against each other so that they argue and the number of commenst increases, thus he get more hits which = more $$ in his pocket. Please dont fall for it.

      JESUS. I swear some of you just live and love to complain especially about this woman. IDC how you may feel about her movies or music or even who you THINK she is as a person, I’m pretty sure she hasn’t done anything to any of you personally, and yet can’t even put aside your hate for one day? Beyonce didn’t have to do this but she has, like many other celebs before her, and I don’t see how you can see her joining up with UN for Humanitarian Day as a bad thing. Like really? You’re up here criticizing her for trying to bring light to a GOOD cause that most of you and your fellow VH1 reality tv show enthusiasts wouldn’t know about otherwise?? Um, okay….guess it’d be cooler to see her getting her Evelyn on right about now.

      Instead of focusing on what she did and has done here for the UN, you’d rather focus on what you THINK she was suppose to do.

      If you don’t like this girl, fine, but a lot of you need to stop acting as if you are being focused to pay attention to anything she does. My grandmother doesn’t know a darn thing about Beyonce because she doesn’t pay attention to her like that. Yeah, she knows that she’s “some singer” but she couldn’t tell you that Beyonce is apparently some kind of attention wh*** for covering up her baby in public so she won’t be picked apart by mean a** adults with nothing better to do than click on Beyonce articles on the internet and complain about how they’re so tired of her…. on the internet. Smh.

      Anyway, beautiful cause, beautiful song, beautiful video, beautiful woman. Love and BLESSINGS to all those who took time out of their day and life to participate in this awesome project, including Beyonce. I’ll certainly be doing my part tomorrow, helping out people I know, who need it, in my own way. Over the years I’ve found that it’s the little things that matter most to people and giving time, money, or a simple hug to those who need can make you and many others feel good.

    59. Matthew Charlery-Smith says:
      August 19, 2012 at 3:31 am

      I think many are too hard on Beyonce SOMETIMES. There was nothing wrong with this video, really. Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” was a similar affair; although were clips of humanitarian crises around the world he had endless shots of screaming fans fainting all over the place.

      What strangles Beyonce’s attempts at being seen as “sincere” is the fact that she never raises awareness about anything. Her 4 solo albums contain NO socially conscious songs and revolve around her being in love, a diva, having and ego and upgrading people.

      Superstars before such as Janet, Michael, Bruce Springsteen, Annie Lennox, Stevie Wonder, James Brown and so many countless others have gone out of their way risking controversy and public backlash (on their sales potentially) to stand against the tide, confront their governments and donate their OWN money. Beyonce, on the other hand, being a mega millionaire appears on Anderson Cooper with an official from the UN to talk about “Giving out hugs”! Honestly, if I had been there I would have loved to ask her why she doesn’t give out her cash at the end of those “hugging” arms?

      It’s this kind of delusionment that disqualifies her from being an icon. They should NEVER enlist someone who has to resort to using evidence of giving $100,000 4 LONG years ago to her own country as evidence of being a true humanitarian when she’s continued working and making more money.

      As for Jay-Z, I don’t even know if there’s any point in going there. He and his wife have endeavoured to build their own world religion, I’ll never believe these two can be so selfless when their output and image typify self-glorification.

      Where’s Princess Diana, who raised her children to see and know the homeless and raised awareness for so many causes including Angolan landmines!? A country which had nothing to do with Britain or the Commonwealth.

      As I said before, I just can’t with these celebrities who “raise money” through their charitable appearances but never donate their own cash (or a significant amount, i.e. Michael Jackson Dangerous Tour). God have mercy on you, because if you neglect the poor with your wealth you will surely answer to Him.

      let me jus say this, a lot of you (including Trent) need to do your research. Beyonce is always doing something that’s humanitarian. Her work isn’t publicized though. She’s said in numerous interviews that she doesnt like to go around boasting about what she’s done because then it makes it seem like it’s not genuine. I dont see how you all say she’s selfish when she’s far from it. I would know first hand that this woman has one of the purest hearts, genuine, etc. It’s funny how the haters seem to think they know her when in actuality u really truly don’t.

      @ Matthew Charley-Smith

      I don’t know if you are aware of this or not, but MJ’s ORIGINAL video for “Man in the Mirror” does not contain any images of Michael himself or his screaming fans. The opening performance of MITM in his “Moonwalker” film does. Also, Michael has given millions of his OWN money to countless charities, organizations, and families who could not afford to bury their loved ones. He’s even in the Guiness Book of World Records for most charities supported by a pop star. Next time do your research before you try to compare one artist’s efforts to another.

      As far as the “I Was Here” video goes, I thought it was alright. Nothing spectacular. But I didn’t find it to be self-indulgent. I just hope Beyonce’s heart was in the right place in doing this video, seeing as though I don’t know what’s truly in her heart.

      I really don’t understand why people are being so shady towards Bey. & those comments about her voice not being powerful enough…*the Trent blank stare*

      I just can’t!

      Beyonce did an AMAZING job, had flawless vocals as usual and it’s for a great cause!

      BTW, for those that are criticizing the lyrics, Diane Warren wrote it and listen closely to the words. Not self-centered at all. It’s all about doing something for others and living your life to the fullest.

      @Matthew

      A lot of the stuff Beyoncé & Jay does is out of the public eye. They don’t look for the press on anything they do. If your going to do something do it because it’s right not for exposure.

      Beyoncé doesn’t broadcast stuff out in the public but she is definitely helping. I know for a fact she does a lot of work with GEM, a program that helps prevents sexual exploitation of young girls. Is that not a social issue?

      She has done a LOT for others but is not pushing it in the media’s face all the time…! She donated her movie paycheck of 4 million to a charity for female drug addicts when she played the addicted Etta James in Cadillac Records,and also began a training program in Cosmetology for that same center to give those recovering addicts REAL SKILLS for a job and she continues to endow that center in support yearly. She also has a foundation for Katrina Survivors in Houston and has done dozens of food drives at her concerts as well as outright million dollar donations to many charities. She has also helped the First Lady with her campaign againist childhood obesity. She has also been involved with a charity to help teenage prostitutes leave the streets. Beyonce has done more than these things,gives miillions and donates her time a lot.

      Is Beyoncé out there speaking on the prison industrial complex and immigration reform? No, but is she whom you want to hear about on those topics anyway? Our pop cultural mediums could definitely stand to be less vapid, but to what extent and how far should entertainers go remains a legitimate debate.

      @Matthew, you articulated this issue very well. I agree with you 100%. I couldn’t have said it any better.

      Beyonce does things for others, but she also does things for her personal benefit. The video was aight. It’s a little too look at, me but it was aight.

      @theman

      How is the stuff she does for other people benefitting herself when most of the time she doesn’t even let the media into the charitable things she does? A reason most people outside her loyal stans don’t know anything about her charity work. I don’t get it.

      @JustAnotherPerson whenever Beyonce see’s someone receiving a ton of attention, she then wants to become part of the movement. She’s been writing all of these letters, and getting inspired by everything. She always has to turn something into her. It makes her look good when she attaches herself to things that already serve good purpose.

      And if she doesn’t say anything you all label her bitch or insensitive. Stop with the bullshit. She can’t win for losing with you guys.

      Ya’ll like to critique every little thing that girl does.

      1. This video is boring
      2. Her dress is FLAWLESS
      3. Her body looks SICKENING in that dress
      4. I love how she made the United Nations add the title of her song to the website link…brilliant marketing and self promotion while also appearing to be simply about humanitarianism…gotta give it up to her promotional team. They are brilliant
      5. The lip synching is bad
      6. The transparency of her overall self promoting scheme is a shame…it’s not even believable
      7. Again, that dress is amazing and she looks flawless in it
      8. Beyonce’s stans are still the most delusional people on the internet!

      This…. It’s not that anyone is hating, but she does make things about her. That whole video screamed look at me. Whenever, she does something it’s like i’ll do this but only if i get something out of it.

      @mango

      She was singing live (hence her singing the song in a different key than the original). The video was just dubbed to show those extra scenes. Try again.

      @The T in Truth

      No, it’s your fault that you pay attention to her every move and are worried about a woman u dislike is doing with herself. It’s your fault that you hold her to such a high regard that everything she does displeases you. You and Trent both are the transparent ones boo.

      LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I literally rolled off my couch laughing at that! Good one. And the “Tryandforgetaboutit” comment? Genius. lol Good video Beyonce.

      I think she released the video a day early because of Rihanna’s Oprah interview on the 19th, to try to take some attention away from that. And, the whole purpose of this song is try to boost sales of 4LOP under the guise of some sort of “humanitarian” effort.

      @ Ben. M, Dead at you spelling “Triumphant” wrong lmao, you tried and failed. Also, “Triumphant” is not meant for the BB 100 Hot, its too urban. Besides, “Triumphant” hasn’t even been out a month, yet, and you’re calling it a “flop?” Try again, sir, in about two months, then we’ll see if its a “flop.”

      Dearest 4560,

      If you actually read my comment, you’d see I never said it was a flop, nor did I misspell “Triumphant”. I copied a comment from Jocelyn who said that. All I am guilty of is laughing at their comments. lol You people and your assuming… lol You are the one who tried and failed by commenting to the wrong person. You have a blessed day. ^__^
