Mariah Carey wasted no time by releasing her new video for ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em)’ merely weeks after the debut of the song. Co-starring Meek Mill and Rick Ross, the boxer-themed visual was directed by the divas husband, Nick Cannon, who actually inspired its lyrics.
In March 2013, Carey will release her new album. However, her fans won’t have to wait that long to see her perform ‘Triumphant’ because she will deliver the first live rendition of the tune on September 5th at 7:30pm ET on NBC and NFL Network to kickoff of the new NFL season.

It’s ironic that Carey basically plays a cheerleader in this ‘Triumphant’ video because she certainly isn’t the focus of the main version of the song. In fact, that has been the primary reason for the tracks poor performance on iTunes and incredibly slow growth on radio.
There is still a chance for ‘Triumphant’ to gain momentum on Urban and Rhythmic radio during the next few months but the probability of it becoming a major hit on the Billboard Hot 100 is incredibly slim. So, what do I suggest? Carey should note the reaction of the public to this tune and try a different approach.
People want to hear Carey sing and main version of ‘Triumphant’ doesn’t showcase the voice that they demand. Really, the response of her fans to the vocals on the Dance remixes is a strong indicator of that fact and Carey would be silly to overlook that as she attempts to remain on trend with Urban music.
Hence, Carey needs to take a step back, pay attention and choose the tracks from the 120 songs she recorded for this album that will satisfy the demand of her fans. This situation is disturbingly similar to this exact period in 2004 when ‘Say Somethin’ (Ft. Snoop Dogg)’ from ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ leaked and people slammed her for “whispering”. Hopefully, this latest backlash will lead to similar power vocal results.
