Elle Varner’s promotional efforts have resulted in an unexpected yet welcome high ranking of her ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ album on the US charts. In fact, the LP has locked a position in the top 5 of the Billboard 200 with sales exceeding initial expectations.
‘Perfectly Imperfect’ sold over 33K copies and debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200. Varner scored the second highest opening sales of any release in the US this week, behind only ‘Now 43′, which topped the Billboard 200 with 111K copies sold (the 16th chart-topper from the ‘Now That’s What I Call Music!’ series).
Meanwhile, on the Billboard Hot 100, Flo Rida has assumed the top slot on the chart with ‘Whistle’. The song is the club-friendly rapper’s 3rd #1 title on the lineup, following ‘Low (Ft. T-Pain)’ and ‘Right Round (Ft. Ke$ha)‘.

Who IS Elle Varner? I’m not trying to question her talent or popularity, and I’m not trying to criticize her or her music and fans. I just honestly have never heard of her before reading this article. I am a music collector and DJ and I am always trying to stay on top of what’s happening in the music world, but I really don’t have any idea who Elle Varner is or what she is known for. I’ve also never gotten a request for her music at any event I’ve ever deejayed at. If anyone could fill me in I would certainly appreciate it!
@ Derek Evan, head over to Itunes or Amazon or another music store and get yourself a copy of her debut album “Perfectly Imperfect” and get to know her that way.
Anyways, I wish she sold more because that album is so good and everyone needs to have it. “Stop the Clock” is my song: needs to be a single.
Good for her for landing in the top 5.
I certainly will check out her new album next time I’m on Itunes. I’m just curious as to why her album is selling so well, because I’ve never heard her name before and I don’t recall ever hearing any songs by her on the radio or on the music video channels. Has she ever had a hit single? Is she a new artist or has she been around for a few years? I’m just curious to know why she is so signficant in the music world.
It’s not that serious. She’s a new artist. She’s an r&b/urban artist. Her album is great. It’s quality music. It’ll be great if this can keep selling well. It deserves to.
@DOMOdotSCORE, you ain’t never lied, “stop the clock” is the business. I love her album she did good with this debut.
Thank you very much for the input! I will definitely check out the album, and maybe purchase a copy. If she’s a relatively new artist, and she’s primarily an R&B/Urban artist, that would explain why I’ve never heard of her. Since the music scene has been moving much more in a dance/pop direction, I have not been following the world of R&B as closely (although I do enjoy R&B music). It still surprises me that this new artist is doing so well on the charts, even without major exposure on Top 40 radio. But #4 on the Billboard 200 is no laughing matter! That seems pretty serious to me! My debut album sold about 100 copies nationwide, so to me… a singer selling 33,000 copies of their album is absolutely fantastic!
[...] to debut at #6 with 27-30k sold, let’s look at the Billboard 200 Chart and see where our girl [...]
I’m so happy for her! “Not Tonight” is my favorite song on the album!
@Derek Evan you should also check out “The MF Life” by Melanie Fiona and Emeli Sande’s “Our Version Of Events.” They are also very good albums.
@derek evans
her album is fantastic …. her label could have promoted her more but the music is really good.
Um was she expected to sell 300 copies or something?
