After years of almost cruel tearing, Missy Elliott is finally back on the music scene! Launching her return to the spotlight today, the iconic rapper release two new songs, ‘Triple Threat’ and ’9th Inning’, which both feature her longtime collaborator Timbaland.
‘Block Party’ will be to stores by the end of 2012. The entire project is being helmed by Timbaland, who is executive producing the album alongside Elliott. Now, without any further delay, listen to both ‘Triple Threat’ and ’9th Inning’ below:
‘Triple Threat’
’9th Inning’
Honestly, ‘Triple Threat’ is by far the stronger song of the two singles and the only track with any hit potential. Elliott’s flow on ’9th Inning’ is very disjointed from the beat and the track is – dare I say this about a Timbaland record – a production mess.
So, does Elliott has the chance to top the charts with either ‘Triple Threat’? The song has a good chance of making waves on Urban radio and iTunes but it is unlikely that it will by a top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100 because it may not crossover to mainstream radio.
Perhaps, the hype for Elliott’s return will be enough to help her make a major impact with these singles. If not then she may want to consider a different approach that does not involve Timbaland and these anti-radio beats.
