The US charts were action-packed with week as two of Pop music’s biggest stars released new albums. However, as usual, there were winners and loses. Unfortunately for Nelly Furtado, she got the proverbial short end of the stick – the tiny end that’s covered in splinters and thorns.
Before we address the horrendous sales of Furtado’s ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ LP, let’s celebrate the incredible achievements of Pink, who scored her first #1 album on the Billboard 200 with ‘The Truth About Love’. The record exceeded early sales predictions by moving an impressive 280K copies in the US and earned the edgy diva the third highest first week numbers of the year to date, following Justin Bieber ‘Believe’ (374K) and Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ (359K).
Now, it’s time to take a moment of silence and reflect on Furtado’s career. Failing to generate a top 40 hit on the Hot 100, the songbird’s ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ album completely missed the top 50 of the Billboard 200 with less than 6K copies sold. That’s right, it sold 213K units less than her last English studio set, ‘Loose’. Furtado will be missed.
