What could be better than watching one or even two of our favourite singers live onstage? Try staying in your seat while a large group of them take turns on the mic in action packed shows! That is the focus of today’s Way Back Wednesday – great group performances by the best in the business!
Remember when Aretha Franklin and Celine Dion went head to head at Vh1 Divas 1998? How about when Diana Ross made the mistake of handing Patti LaBelle the mic at the Motown Records reunion? If not then watch those group performances and more below:
Aretha Franklin, Carol King, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey & Shania Twain
Ashford, Simpson, Ben E. King, Roberta Flack, Phyllis Hyman, Cissy Houston, Paul Shaffer, Stevie Wonder and Patti LaBelle
Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross & Whitney Houston
Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Little Richard & Others
Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Usher, Debelah Morgan & Others
Mya, Pink & Usher
The Winans, Whitney Houston & Kid N Play
Group performances like these are part of the magic that music industry is missing today. There is something thrilling and undeniably overwhelming about watching amazing artists join forces onstage but most acts out today can’t even sing live by themselves, far less with each other.
Which of the above performances is my favourite? Well, that’s a touch choice but when LaBelle and Phyllis Hyman sang ‘Reach Out & Touch (Somebody’s Hand)’ I felt the Spirit move through me. Did you hear their range? I am changed!
