Christina Aguilera Announces Puzzling New ‘Lotus’ Single

Written by Trent | Filed under Christina Aguilera
    Christina Aguilera promo TheLavaLizard

Christina Aguilera stars in her ‘Your Body’ video.

So far, Christina Aguilera’s team has completely mismanaged her ‘Lotus‘ project but they aren’t finished causing chaos amongst her fans just yet. Moments ago, RCA Records announced the new single to support the record and the decision is almost as puzzling as Aguilera’s choice not to hire a vocal coach.

‘Just a Fool’ will serve as the official followup to the ill-fated lead ‘Lotus’ single, ‘Your Body’. Featuring Aguilera’s fellow ‘The Voice’ coach, Blake Shelton, the song is one of the most memorable cuts on the album but not because of its quality. Rather, the screaming match is simply impossible to forget.

If you haven’t heard ‘Just a Fool’, which is such an ironic song title given this poor single selection, then watch Aguilera describe the recording of the track and listen to it below:

As noted in my album review of ‘Lotus’, ‘Just a Fool’ is literally a war of notes and not the type of song that should be unleashed so recklessly on radio. The over the top vocals are simply abrasive and would scare away not only all the fish in nearby lakes, but also casual listeners.

Still, perhaps Aguilera and her camp will prove her detractors wrong. Given the mass appeal of Blake, who is a very consistent act on the charts, and the Country connection of the song, ‘Just a Fool’ might take off on the Adult Contemporary formats, thus attracting album-buyers. If not, then Aguilera can always claim that it is another “masterpiece” like the material on ‘Bionic’ and radio audiences are just too stupid to appreciate it.

    Thoughts?

I actually like the song A LOT.
Not a fan of country music myself but Blake’s voice is really good and for some reason he’s super likable & charming -traits that Aguilera lacks.
I’ve heard this song has been the most downloaded off Lotus on Itunes so it makes a lot of sense RCA picked it as a second single.

Now, I wonder if Aguilera will do her fans a favor -and to herself- and promote this song as it supposed to be. Your Body is still suffering for her laziness.
      Anyway, great song choice!

Whhhhhhyyyy (no punn intended)? I hate this song! Are they (her team) trying to make this album a failure? “Let There be Love” should be and would be a better single. *sighs*

He runs an Entertainment blog and Christina is in the Entertainment industry…he wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t cover her….with that said I actually think this song might do well with good promotion…it’s not that bad, but it would be better if Christina cut back a little….she always over sings.

Can I ask you a question Trent if Christina bothers you so much why continue to report her latest updates? Just pretend she doesn’t exist is it that hard?

Are you kidding me? Trent reports on everybody, its his job. He reports on Brandy, Monica, J-lo, Beyonce, Rihanna, Mariah, Whitney (RIP), Celine, CHRISTINA, etc and anyone that needs reporting on….its a music site…what do you expect? This is not some personal social media site, this is a professional (as professional as Trent can be lol) and he will report on whatever he needs to. If you are unhappy, then stop coming here.

@Andy that’s not true. Mariah cannot be the biggest flop. That would go to Nelly F. who sold millions from her last album and debuted with 3,000 copies this year. Brandy who sold 110,000 copies a month later or Xtina who will debut with 75-80k or Bionic that sold less that 350,000 in the world. Have a seat, pressed bitch.

My dear sir, you need a cohesive understanding of what a PERSONAL BLOG and what a MUSIC BLOG/FORUM is. This most definitely not a personal blog, if it was it would have been filled with music, movies, personal life, family, etc which IT CLEARLY ISN’T. Its true that Trent injects his opinion and thoughts (as MOST journalists do), but this is HIS music blog, so what is he suppose to do? Again, if you feel so against this site and journalism, leave. Its not as hard as you make it seam.

It peaked because of Blake, who has a big fan base in Country music. Retard, you are.

Whether you state it or not, its the reason behind its peak, hence why no other song peaked that high except for “Your body”. Yes, retard you are. Don’t you realize that whether you say the reasons or not doesn’t make it any less truthful? Wow.

& I’m asking you: WHERE THE FUCK DID I WRITE ABOUT THE REASON BEHIND IT’S PEAK. Your comment didn’t refute anything I said. I argued that it wasn’t a “puzzling choice” based on its peak. It peaked where it peaked and I know it’s because of the hype the duet brought. Your comment was irrelevant to my post. End of.

I differ with Trent in this one
I think it is one of the best tracks on the album. And no, it doesn´t seem to be radio friendly, but at this point it was clear she was not going to have a pop-dance hit on radio this era (again), so i think it is smart move to release this as the single since it is clearly the most downloaded song from Lotus on itunes

      @Andy:
With Bionic and now Lotus pulling in numbers that would make even Kreayshawn squirt milk out of her nostrils laughing, you are not entitled to distribute flops.

This is especially embarrassing when topped by Christina’s recent comments on her own work. “Beautiful masterpiece” and “ahead of its time” are phrases she’s thrown around to describe her catalogue. Not Paul McCartney, not Michael Jackson. Not Elton John, not even Madonna. NOT ONE of them has EVER lionized themselves by describing their work as ‘beautiful masterpieces’. And people BOUGHT their albums.

As for this “no promotion” concept circulating throughout Christina’s fan base (if we can call it than anymore): A simple google search indicates that she’s done the usual late night talk show route, has done several radio interviews, magazine reports and several pre taped interviews on a couch. Lest we forget that she is on television EVERY WEEK? If it worked for Jennifer Lopez, then you KNOW Christina is over. There is a difference between ‘not promoting’ and the public ‘not caring’.

As for the Mariah juxtaposition: 200 million albums versus 40 million. Lotus is expected to bring in 75K this week (likely to be outsold by the Twilight OST). Good luck catching up.

This is a really good song, they actually sound pretty good together. It’s one thing to give constructive criticism. But Trent is just really complaining about any and everything christina. This is a really great song. She isn’t screaming the way you are trying to make her out to be.

Trent, I beleive your way off on this one. I agreed with many points that were made on the album review. However, in this case ‘Just A Fool’ was one of the songs that many listeners were praising upon the release of ‘Lotus’.
