Did you know that LaBelle once performed a live cover of Nina Simone’s ‘Four Women’?
Written for her ‘Wild is the Wind’ album in 1966, Nina Simone’s ‘Four Women’ became an anthem four both the Black Power and second wave feminist movements in the 1970s. Several acts have since covered the song, including the legendary trio of LaBelle, which was fronted by Patti LaBelle.
LaBelle revamped the sound of ‘Four Women’ by adding elements of Funk, Soul and Disco for their rendition. Watch the legendary divas perform the song at a 1972 concert below:
