Rihanna’s Tops UK Charts With ‘Unapologetic’, Matches Madonna

The cover of Rihanna’s new album, ‘Unapologetic’.

Rihanna once stated that she has modelled her career to match the legacy of Madonna and judging by her continued prolific performance on the charts, she is well on her way toward claiming the Queen of Pop’s title. Indeed, the Bajan’s latest album, ‘Unapologetic’, has debuted atop the UK Albums Chart and helped her to match another of Madonna’s many records.

Following ‘Loud’ and ‘Talk That Talk’, ‘Unapologetic’ has become Rihanna’s third consecutive #1 album on the UK Albums Chart with sales of 100K. The only other solo female artists to have as many consecutive leaders on the lineup are Madonna, Eva Cassidy and Norah Jones. Additionally, Rihanna has claimed a total of four #1 albums on the UK Albums Chart, including 2007′s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’.

Earlier this week, Rihanna tied another of Madonna’s feats in the US when ‘Diamonds’ became her twelfth #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 and pushed her to fourth place among acts with the most such hits on the chart. The Beatles still hold the record for the most #1 songs (20) while Mariah Carey has more leaders than any solo performer (18) and is ranked second overall.

‘Diamonds’ also entered the Official UK Singles Chart at #1 in October as Rihanna’s seventh such hit on the lineup to date. Watch the video for ‘Diamonds’ below:

you know what? The Beatles, Mariah etc will probably be beaten in these records by some talentless cunt. These records have become redundant because of the internet, social media etc. I dont think anyone would get up and go to the shop to buy the “diamonds” single like they had to do in the 20th century.

    • MC

Lol. Watch the navy call her the queen of pop after this.

      • Benron (King Of The Fucking Navy)

Well you must have a crystal ball or something…

        • MC

          I do.

      • Andy

        lool good 1!!!!

    • Benron (King Of The Fucking Navy)

Oh please, all you old people are just mad because Rihanna is slaying. When she beats your 80 yr old faves in number ones its because its “easier to get them now”. Are ya’ll really that uneducated, it takes 2 minutes to RIP unapologetic/diamonds from iTunes and download it illegally. #TTT had over 1.2 million illegal downloads down last year.

Now Telll me this, could someone illegally download songs back in Le Olden days you all praise? No. So just congratulate Rihanna for her achievement, notice that she is now up their with you legends and if you feel the need to cut yourself in anger because some “talent less” girl could come and take the world by storm a year after she came from a small island in the Carribean with only 400k people then please do it peacefully.

      • elke hassell

You opinion is just so fucked up! She can’t sing period!!!!! nothing to do with old music! credit someone that can sing live and without autotune!

        • Benron (King Of The Fucking Navy)

No1curr about her singing. Today being a music industry star is about visuals, performances, style and influence. Nobody said you had to be whitney (who Rihanna passed in #1 hits). Could Mandonna even hold a proper note? Nope, but she is a legend and Rih will be 2.

        • LE

And that’s the reason why music is dying it’s all about fake personas and image Mandonna may not can hold a note but at least she can carry a tune and harmonies more than your fave can ever do

      • LE

SHUT THE HELL UP!! you are so childish and small minded when it comes to music all you doing is following a music trend that will die out in few more years enjoy it while you can hopefully your musical taste matures when you do

        • Benron (King Of The Fucking Navy)

How do you know my musical taste? Have we met? Are you a long lost cousin or something cuz if not you can shut the phuck up.

Madonna cannot sing, she does not have a unique voice and copied the hell out of Marilyn Monroe. Rihanna’s Hero > An average Madonna performance. You seem to be really fuming, go spend that energy walking to the apple store, purchasing a 20$ itunes gift card, buying Unapologetic to contribute to our predicted number one, and listening to your favorite artist.

        • LE

You have such bad taste in music you say im fuming lol look at you and that’s the problem itunes you need to spend your energy on finding some decent music than this kiddie trend that will die out before you hit the age of 20 lol im done with you little girl i don’t fight with lessors fly away little birdy

        • Benron (King Of The Fucking Navy)

@Le You do not know my musical taste and Rihanna is not a fading trend.

      • objectively_speaking

First of all, I do have to peacefully disagree with you about two things my friend.
The first: not everyone that dislikes this trend is old (depending on what you consider old, but I digress that is beside the issue.) Some of us are actually very much young (not grade school young or graduate from college old somewhere in between but again off topic :]) As you mentioned in a response to another comment, “you don’t know my musical taste” which is true. We all on here probably more than likely have very different tastes in music as far as what we consider wonderful & what we consider noise. For example I like & frequently listen to K & J-Pop. I love it others hate but in the end its all about what you like. Has nothing (if anything little) to do with age.
Secondly: The music industry today as much as it is becoming more about presence (visuals if you will), it’s not totally 100% about visuals. Part of the music industry (no matter how small that part may be) will (always) still be about singing (nè talent [runs, belts, vibratos, extensive dances etc & whathaveyou), otherwise we wouldn’t have shows such as American Idol & The X-factor, ABDC, just to name a few. (One could suppose, extensive dancing could go along with visuals but perfected choreography & “blood, sweat & tears” talent for dancing no matter what type can be & certainly are very much dissimilar.)
But for the most part, I’m picking up what your putting down…

      • BlairWaldorf2013

Now now…When you make assine comments like the one above you CLEARLY show your inability to make a logical argument for your view point.

The fact of the matter is music IS easier to gain access to, artists DO have a wider audience then their predessors had in terms of records/singles being available. Music IS redundant (mostly sampled of the artists you detest). Artists today DON’T possess any REAL musical talent.

I would encourage you to look up the DEFINITION of the word-Artist. You will notice that these entertainers (if they can even be called that when you have legends like Prince still on stage) are not REAL ARTISTS. Instead, they are culture friendly remodels of those that came before them. The real ISSUE is the younger generation as a whole has become so redundant/pointless in themselves that MINDLESS garbage makes sense to you.

Rihanna and her cohorts are SIMPLY PROFIT MAKING MACHINES for coporations…they are NOT true visionaries/trend setters/game changers. In 20 years people will still be singing Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, R-Kelly, Prince, Aretha, Patti, I could go on but you get the point.

In 9 months people will barely remember any of the songs Rihanna has put out because she will be RELEASING yet another album. In 20 years she won’t even have that…but I bet Madonna’s Vogue will still be relevant.

        • BlairWaldorf2013

My comment above is addressing Benron (King Of The Fucking Navy) various statements of nonsense.

    • elke hassell

UK has officially lost all music sense! Way to go UK to put Rihanna in the league of your Beatles, and more important real musicians. What is wrong with you!!!!

    • Zee

Lots of anger in these comments. Rihanna’s #1′s aren’t gonna change the price of bread so let her do her damn thing. Even if she is an “untalented c*nt” People used to say the same thing about Madonna btw.

    • DOMOdotSCORE

      Well, congrats to Rihanna.

    • objectively_speaking

The way I see it, alot of these “talentless acts” are here to stay. We might as well suck it up & deal with it, they ain’t trying to go nowhere. With that being said, you can’t be mad at someone’s successes otherwise what’s gonna happen? They’ll continue to be successful & probably start having even greater successes. Kill them with kindness. If you really don’t like a specific artist or musician that’s OK, Just wish them well in all that they do. If fate sees fit eventually something (or someone) will destroy their career. If not then hey there’s always death..but I’m not evil like that. Aside from that, until my generation has a come to Jesus moment (or grows up whichever comes first) these most of these talentless acts will probably see another 5-7 at most 8-9 years. That’s….Plenty of time. Hey, not saying I like or dislike it any bit of it. I’m just saying most of these “talentless acts” we all refer to, their careers ain’t trying to bite the dust anytime soon.

I just noticed something. Back in 2005, and even in 2007 with Good Girl Gone Bad, ppl said that Rihanna would be a trend for the moment or a one hit wonder. Clearly that’s not true because its 2012, and she has literally become a superstar

    • pineapple

the hate for Rihanna is unwarranted, but it reminds me of the hate for Madonna in the 80s and Diana Ross in the 70s.

you bitch now, but in 2030 when someone even LESS talented than Rihanna is out there slaying, we will all be like, “damn, remember Rihanna? she used to be great”

      LMFAO

IT IS WHAT IT IS Y’ALL!!!
