Jermaine Dupri didn’t get land a slot on Usher’s last album, Looking 4 Myself, but now he’s getting the chance to prove is worth. Reuniting with his longtime friend and collaborator, with whom he crafted the classic Confessions LP, Dupri shared this image of himself and Usher in the studio as they recorded new music.
Looking 4 Myself has been Usher’s slowest-selling album since his 1994 self-titled debut. To date, the record has sold little over 460K copies in the US, despite producing the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit “Scream”, which peaked at #9 on the chart and the Grammy Award-winning “Climax”. The latter tune was named the Best R&B Performance at the 2013 Grammy ceremony in February.
By contrast, all of Usher’s albums featuring contributions by Dupri have sold north of 1 million copies in the US. Dupri was also responsible for producing several of Usher’s #1 hits on the Hot 100, including “My Boo (Ft. Alicia Keys)”. Watch the video for that song below:
