Good sense has prevailed in the house of Mimi! After years of allowing dozens of less talented American Idol contestants run amuck around her pink yet lavender vacant throne as the Queen of the Modern Ballad, Mariah Carey is finally ready to reclaim her spot at the top with a new album that current has a May release date.
Pretending as though “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” never happened, Carey revealed the exciting news to Billboard that her new album will be packed with “raw” ballads. At that exact moment, Leona Lewis galloped back to a lonely studio in the UK upon realising that her days as a substitute for the diva have come to an end.
“It’s about making sure I have tons of good music,” Carey noted as she chatted freely about her new material, which was produced by the likes of Q-Tip and DJ Cassidy, Jermaine Dupri,Bryan-Michael Cox, Big Jim Wright, Hit-Boy, The-Dream and Rodney Jerkins. “At the end of the day, that’s the most important thing.”
“Wherever we go with this project,” Carey continued. “I’ve tried to keep the soul and heart in it with me, obviously, as the through-line. I was and still am in a very prolific space. I could say, ‘Let’s stop now’ but that’s not who I am, and that’s not what I want this record to be. I really want the fans to love this record.”
Earlier today, Carey visited LIVE! With Kelly & Michael where she spoke about her current single, “Almost Home” from the Oz the Great & Powerful soundtrack. Although she didn’t treat the crowd to a live performance of the tune, she will reportedly sing it on American Idol later this season.
