Bruno Mars has scored several #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold millions of albums but the #1 slot on the Billboard 200 has always eluded. Yet, thanks to a price cut by Amazon, the spirited singer finally topped the US charts this week with singer-songwriter following closely behind.
Along with several other works by various Pop acts, Digital retailer Amazon MP3 sold Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox for a rather cheap $1.99 and gave it the boost to top the Billboard 200. The set moved over 96K copies in the US for a new total 960K in little over two months of availability.
Astoundingly, Mars’ debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which ranked at #66 on the Billboard 200 this week with 9K copies sold, never reached the peak of the Billboard 200. To date, the record has accumulated a sum of 1.88 million in US sales alone since being released on October 5th 2010.
That’s enough about Mars. Now, it’s time to talk about the achievements of your favourite lady, Adele. Following her showing at the 2013 Academy Awards, Adele has reclaimed a spot in the top ten of the Billboard 200 with her everlasting 21 album.
Positioned at #10 on the Billboard 200 this week, 21 sold 27K copies for a grand total of 10.45 million sold in the US. The 10x platinum set was first released in that territory on February 22nd 2011 and has never left the top thirty five of the Billboard 200 during its entire two year+ run.
