The-Dream’s own music isn’t very successful but the material that he has crafted for other artists ranks him one of the most prolific hit-makers of the last decade. To commemorate his many accomplishments, Kelly Rowland surprised The-Dream with a special presentation on BET’s 106 & Park last evening.
Fighting tears, The-Dream accepted a plaque from Rowland acknowledging the sales of over 50 million copies of the songs that he wrote for other acts. Among those notable performers were Beyonce (“Single Ladies”), Rihanna (“Hard”) and Mariah Carey (“Touch My Body”).
The-Dream recently wrote the controversial “Dirty Laundry” for Rowland as well as “Where Have You Been”, the latter of which appears on his IV Play album. Speaking of IV Play, the record is projected to sell less than 21K copies in its first week. At least The-Dream still gets royalties for his songwriting credits.
