By now, you’ve heard the raw audio of Mariah Carey’s performance at the American Idol season finale. However, the excitement captured during diva’s pre-taped medley of hits failed to translate during the live show, specifically because of horrible editing and an array of awkward transitions between songs.
Nicki Minaj probably enjoyed a good laugh as Carey’s jumbled renditions of “Vision of Love”, “Make it Happen”, “My All”, “Hero”, “We Belong Together” and “#Beautiful” played on the American Idol big screen. Carey’s vocals were certainly not the butt of the joke as she sounded generally impressive and didn’t rely on her trusty backtrack. Rather, her nervous expressions as she waited for the cues between tracks and the horribly spliced takes were strangely hilarious.

Carey sang live but the editing was horrendous. Perhaps she should have performed during the American Idol finale instead of taping her showing because people would have overlooked the awkward moments in favour of her vocals. Also, why didn’t Carey sing “#Beautiful” in its entirety with Miguel? She really didn’t have to perform so many songs when she has a current single to promote. Don’t let this nonsense happen again, Carey.
