Even the added powers of Beyonce, Jay-Z and Kelly Rowland couldn’t convince consumers to purchase a copy of The-Dream’s new IV Play album. Indeed, sales predictions indicate that the record is set to have a very slow start on the charts next week and an even smaller impact than Little Mix’s DNA.
In addition to his Lights Out Tour, The-Dream promoted IV Play on AOL Sessions and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno but the album will only sell an unimpressive 18-21K copies in the US by the end of its first week. Yes, that figure represents less than half of the 58K units that his previous major commercial effort, Love King, sold in its opening frame in 2010.
Little Mix, on the other hand, will enjoy slightly better luck. Despite a gross lack of promotion in the US, their DNA debut album will sell up to 50K copies in its first week. The UK group experienced much more success in their home territory when the record sold over 234K units in 2012 after just 6 weeks in stores.
