Kanye West, J. Cole and Kelly Rowland all released albums yesterday, therefore kicking off the first major chart showdown of the summer season. However, as sales predictions indicate, the final results will swing in favour of the obvious leader but only one of the three will top his previous effort.
Although he won’t top the Billboard 200 next week, Cole is on track to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump with Born Sinner album and enjoy the only sales increase of the trio. The record is expected to sell 290-315K copies, thus besting the 218K sold by his Cole World: Sideline Story debut in September 2011.
On the other hand, West’s Yeezus will arrive at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 375-400K copies sold. Those figures represent a decline from the 496K moved by the rapper’s previous solo release, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in November 2010 and the 436K his Watch the Throne collaborative effort sold in August 2011. Still, it is important to note that West has yet to issue an official single from Yeezus.
Finally, Rowland’s Talk a Good Game will also land in the top ten of the Billboard 200. Sadly, the album is projected to sell only 60-65K copies, which represent her lowest opening sales figures to date. Neither of the supporting singles – “Kisses Down Low” and “Dirty Laundry” – have cracked the Billboard Hot 100 top forty.
