The members of Destiny’s Child are still undecided regarding a possible reunion but we can certainly have fun while we wait! As part of our Way Back Wednesday signature song series, its time to reflect on the group’s entire catalogue as we name their undisputed definite tune.
From “No, No, No” to “Soldier”, Destiny’s Child was one of the most popular and successful girl groups of all time with an extensive list of hits. Centred by lead singer Beyonce, who used her bandmates to launch her own solo career, each member changing lineup (except whatsherface Farrah Franklin) brought a subtle yet unique flair to help make Destiny’s Child a leading chart force.
Before we crown Destiny’s Child’s signature song, check out some of their most popular records below:
“Bills, Bills, Bills”
“Bootylicious”
“Cater 2 U”
“Independent Women (Part One)”
“Jumpin’, Jumpin’”
“Lose My Breath”
“No, No, No (Ft. Wyclef Jean)”
“Say My Name”
“Soldier (Ft. T.I. & Lil Wayne)”
“Survivor”
My favourite Destiny’s Child record (and video) is “Lose My Breath” but their signature song is undoubtedly either “Say My Name” or “Bootylicious”. In fact, the title of the latter tune was so popular that it has been added to the dictionary as a real word to describe a voluptuous body, thus leaving a lasting reminder of Destiny’s Child’s cultural impact. If that isn’t the mark of a signature then nothing else fits the bill.
