Jessie J was criticised for copying Katy Perry’s sound on her biggest hit, “Domino”, but since the latter singer is currently on a break, Jessie J was forced to find another source of inspiration. Enter Kelly Clarkson, who undoubtedly had a major influence on the new song, “It’s My Party”.
Bolstered by an almost identical arrangement to Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath”, “It’s My Party” sees Jessie J heading into Top 40 territory without a trace of the Urban flavour that laced her previous single, “Wild (Ft. Big Sean & Dizzee Rascal)”. The song will impact UK iTunes on September 15.
Now, it’s very difficult for artists to be original in 2013 since consumers are so enthralled by the ear candy provided by trends but that is no excuse for a singer-songwriter of Jessie J’s calibre to imitate the music of other acts. What makes the situation even worse is the sloppy production on “It’s My Party” and shrill singing, which sounds as though Jessie J was screaming into a fan. Quite simply, this song should have never been released.
