Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have been on good terms on Twitter but don’t let that fool you, the competition is still fierce! Obviously moved by the excitement generated by her peer’s new song, “Roar”, the former has issued her own single, “Applause”, a week ahead of schedule.
“Applause” is the lead offering from Gaga’s upcoming ARTPOP album, which will hit stores on November 11. It was initially expected to premiere on radio and iTunes on August 19, but Gaga unexpectedly switched gears to compete with Perry’s “Roar”.
So, what does this all mean? “Applause” has officially impacted radio and will be eligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 later this week. However, whether it will chart higher than “Roar” is uncertain as the latter tune has been put into power rotation on all participating stations under the Clear Channel umbrella.
That’s enough chatter. Listen to Gaga’s highly anticipation “Applause” comeback below:
“Applause” isn’t as instantly catchy as “Roar” but it certainly makes a grand statement as a radio-friendly single and a much more impressive vocal performance. Quite frankly, it is a far better song than “Roar” and a perfect song for the Top 40 formats. I expect this song to top iTunes as well as the Hot 100. Even if it fails to reach those heights, it is still a win for Gaga!
