Is Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines (Ft. T.I. & Pharrell)” a classic that will stand the test of time? It’s too soon to make such an assumption but there is no denying that the song is a monster hit. In fact, it has secured the crooner a spot in the history books as he replaces none other than diva Mariah Carey.
“Blurred Lines” has remained atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a stunning 9th frame as the longest-running #1 by a male solo act since Flo Rida’s “Low (Ft. T-Pain)” in 2008. The song also garnered 219.8 million audience impressions this week, overshadowing the 212.2 million attracted by Carey’s “We Belong Together” in July 2005 and ranking it as the biggest radio hit by any artist since the launch of the Billboard Radio Songs chart in December 1990.
Additionally, “Blurred Lines” sold another 405,000 downloads this week for a new total of 4.27 million downloads. That achievement has positioned the song as the second best-selling single of the year to date, behind only Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop (Ft. Wanz) with 5.77 million.
Wait, the good news doesn’t end there for Thicke. His Blurred Lines album has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and exceeded all expectations with the highest opening figure of his career. The set sold an impressive 177,000 copies, besting the 137,000 moved by his previous fastest-seller, Something Else, in October 2008.
