If you're a fan of Whitney Houston's voice toward the end of her career then this snippet of her new song is for you. 'Never Give Up' was produced by Jermaine Dupri and will appear on the late diva's upcoming ‘I Will Always Love You – The Best of Whitney Houston’ greatest hits compilation.

'The Best of Whitney Houston' will be released to stores on November 13th. Another new tune that appears on the set's track list is an updated version of 'I Look to You', which has been turned into a duet with the song's writer, R. Kelly. Vocally, it's certainly not her best work but it is a welcome addition to the collections of her biggest fans.

The passing of Whitney Houston shook the industry but no other artist was affected as much as Brandy. The singer was so moved by the death of her idol that she entitled her new album 'Two Eleven' and in the latest issue of VIBE Vixen, she explains exactly how Houston motivated her new outlook on life.

"It just didn’t seem right the way she passed," Brandy revealed in her VIBE Vixen interview. "I was angry, I was confused, but as I started to process it all, I just started to feel like there was a responsibility that she passed on to me to stay true to [the music]."

Read additional excerpts from Brandy's chat with the publication below:

It’s widely known that Two Eleven means a lot to you. It’s your birth date but also the date of Whitney Houston’s passing. What runs through your mind when you recall that day? February 11th will never be the same. I think about her everyday but that day in particular, it’s different. I didn’t understand. I had just seen her the day before; I just spoke to her a couple days before she passed. It just didn’t seem right the way she passed. I was angry, I was confused, but as I started to process it all, I just started to feel like there was a responsibility that she passed on to me to stay true to [the music]. She gave me the dream and possibility, and I have to do that same thing for other people. This music thing is not just about me anymore. It’s about the people that I’m relating to. People need music.

Do you think that you’ll do a song for Whitney? I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. It’s really about the overall purpose, which is music. I remember her telling me, ‘Nobody can be you so don’t try to be something other than you. Be yourself and stay true to that.’  That was the last thing she said to me. That was the last time I heard her voice. It’s all a spiritual thing to me. The day, the passing, it’s all…

It’s still affecting you; it’s in your voice. I never want Whitney’s passing to be about me. She meant so much to me, so I have to take something from it to help me move on and give me a purpose after she’s gone.

Last week, images from the ‘We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston’ special were released and now we have footage of one of performances. Thanks to a crafty agent who snuck a camera into the event, Usher's rendition of Whitney Houston's 'I Believe in You & Me' has hit the web.

Dressed in surprisingly casual attire for the tribute to the late Houston, Usher sang an altered version of 'I Believe in You & Me' as pictures of the diva flashed behind him. Unfortunately, just like his messy clothes, Usher's performance simply missed the mark.

Watch Usher perform at the 'Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston' show below:

Knowing Usher's range and remarkable skill as a vocalist, this 'I Believe in You & Me' showing as definitely below his standard. His runs and tone during the verses was good but he lost his stride during the climax and avoided the high notes that he could have easily hit. Perhaps Usher was just having an off day, but it would have been great to see him try just a bit harder.

Way Back Wednesday: Scorned Lovers http://thelavalizard.com/2012/10/way-back-wednesday-scorned-lovers/ http://thelavalizard.com/2012/10/way-back-wednesday-scorned-lovers/#comments Wed, 10 Oct 2012 21:39:50 +0000 Trent http://thelavalizard.com/?p=32042 Whitney Houston TheLavaLizard

[caption id="attachment_32043" align="aligncenter" width="550"]Whitney Houston TheLavaLizard Whitney Houston stars in her 'It's Not Right but It's Okay' video.[/caption]

The last thing you should do is anger a person who can write songs or has access to a studio because the resulting fallout will be gruesome. However, for those of you who choose to ignore that warning, this week's Way Back Wednesday will show you exactly what scorned lovers can do when they are upset.

Instead of performing the typically sad breakup songs, artists such as Whitney Houston, Jazmine Sullivan and The Isley Brothers blast their former spouses for with the power of music. If you need help voicing your rage to a past spouse then watch some of the best videos addressing angry breakups below:

Brandy - 'What About Us?'

Eamon - 'Fuck It'

Fantasia - 'Free Yourself'

Jazmine Sullivan - 'Bust Your Windows'

JoJo - 'Get Out'

Keyshia Cole - 'I Should Have Cheated'

Mariah Carey - 'Shake it Off'

Monica - 'So Gone'

The Isley Brothers - 'Busted'

Whitney Houston - 'It's Not Right but It's Okay'

We've all had those moments of anger following a breakup or argument when songs like those listed above help us to focus our rage instead of running somebody over with a car. Yet, the most powerful moments aren't always found in the lyrics. Rather, we often connect to a vocal run, wail or belt that expresses the exact emotion that we're feeling, and only the very best artists know how to do it effectively.

Which of the songs listed is your favourite? What other songs should have been added to the mix? Share your opinions in the comment section below!

Since the passing of Whitney Houston in February, Celine Dion has been quite outspoken about her disappointment regarding the troubled singer's risky lifestyle that eventually resulted in her death. Yet, that doesn't mean that Dion lost any respect for her fallen peer's talent and she will prove it at the 'We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston'.

Joining the previously announced Usher and Jennifer Hudson, Dion will honor Houston at the 'Grammy Salute'. The show, which will also include testimonials by a range of other artists, is scheduled to be filmed on October 11th and will air on November 16th at 10pm ET via CBS. Tickets for the 'Grammy Salute' will go on sale today (September 27th) and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

Dion's most recent comments concerning Houston's drug use were made during her interview with V magazine. “I’ve always been scared of the industry because I think it’s a place where anything is possible. It’s a ‘yes’ place, especially if you have success,” Dion noted. “I was just in shock when Whitney’s life had been taken because of drugs. It’s a big loss for all of us.”

The ‘I Will Always Love You – The Best of Whitney Houston’ will be released on November 13th and one song that is featured on the set's track list is the new 'I Look to You' duet between Whitney Houston and R. Kelly. However, are the revamped arrangement and previously unheard vocals a fitting addition to the diva's legacy?

R. Kelly composed the original version of 'I Look to You' for Houston's 2009 album of the same name. Following her untimely passing in early 2012, he performed the song at her funeral ceremony in honor of her memory and many wondered how the tune would have sounded if the R&B legends sang it together.

Well, now is your chance to hear 'I Look to You' as a duet. Listen to the song below:

'I Look to You' is a beautiful song and R. Kelly sings it effortlessly. Yet, after three years since the original version's release, the tone of Houston's voice on this record is still quite unappealing. Out of respect for her legacy, I won't say much more but just understand that this gruff instrument is not the voice that I imagine when reflecting on her amazing career. Rather, I happily focus on the sweet tones of her younger years of pre-2000.
